This is a pic just after mine was fitted, i think its on an escort battery tray?

You will notice the clear pipe on the nearest side that vents the gasses down through the floor of the boot.

Are you all doing this just to save space or make the engine bay look tidier? I want to put a 2nd battery int he boot to run my sounds, how can this be done?

Its really simple if you have removed the rear wiper and jet.

I'll maybe do an FAQ sometime

If you want cheap heavy duty cable find yourself a Audi 100 in the scrappies and take the +ve battery cable out of that it should be long enough as it reaches from under the rear passanger seat all the way up to the front RHS chassis leg and drops down to the starter. This cable is multi strand and easy to bend...

    Cheers

Resto(?) mag had an article about fitting a battery in the boot a couple of months back - I'll try & scan it in if I remember tonight

For battery boxes, try the vehicle-wiring-products link above, or go to a boat chandlery (sp) (where they sell boat stuff  )

Mines in the boot because it was infront of the metering-unit/airbox (what were vw thinking?) so now i get better airflow to it.

i just put an extra battery in the boot of my mk4 golf to run my sound system.i used an optima yellow top dry cell battery a split charge relay and 0awg cable (50mm thick).

to do this i cut abit of cable about 30cm long and connected it from the 1st battery to the split charge relay and mounted it in a spare place in the engine bay, i then needed to add a cable that is run from the ignition so that when you turn the ignition on the relay kicks in. then i had to run the rest of the 0awg cable down the side of the doors and get it onto my battery which is mounted on brackets had it in about a week and it works fine.
