I've never had oil surge but I've also never been around such a long corner flat out like Gerrads Might be whittling for nothing eh?
I'll take a passenger with me on my first few sessions to keep an eye on the pressure guage i have installed. I've never had a problem yet so if it's a problem on the day i'll just have to slow down a bit on that particular corner [:^(]
It was at 100 when I found it on eBay (just thought I'd mention that since GVK never bother to credit me for finding it! )
I got a diesel windage plate from german and swedish - its a nice bit of kit as it has a rubber gasket moulded around it and has metal inserts where the bolts go through so its easy to torque up properly. Fitted my 9A just fine. Watch it seals properly though - the top face of a tin sump has pressing ridges in it and I'm not convinced that this is compatible with the rubber gasket which also has ridges in it.....the rubber gasket would be much better seal with an ali sump which has a completely flat top face that mates with the block...like fitted to some audi's etc...or could perhaps fill the ridges in the tin sump with liquid metal and then grind flat. I only fitted the rubber gasket with my baffled Schrick sump. Rob
At Snetterton the other day, i was running on slicks for the 1st time and i had a bit of oil coming out of the filler cap and also a lot came out of the crankcase breather mounting. Is this oil surge? At the end of the day i found that the oil breather pipe which goes back to the airbox was kinked so i'm assuming that why oil was coming out of the breather mounting instead. i didn't hear any dodgy knocking noises thou. I've now sorted the pipe but do i need to get a baffled sump? Could i make one by welding plates into the sump? If so does anybody have a picture of one? Cheers Ian
so a long stroke crank will stop the diesel windage try fitting..... So for example the diesel engine, with it's long stroke crank - won't fit with a diesel windage tray.... or perhaps my 16v with a long stroke (diesel) crank won't work with the windage tray that's fitted....
sorry to bring this topic back up... Just wanted to know if the following combination would work? Engine is a 2.0L 16V ABF Engine. I got a Schrick baffled alloy sump and i wanted to use the diesel windage tray with it. Are there any problems with this? I believe the windage tray from the diesel has integrated sump gasket - anyone see there being any problems using this with the schrick sump? Also - do i need to ditch the plastic jobbie that sits on the oil pump pickup ... or can i use the whole lot (shrick baffled sump, plastic thinggy ont end of oil pump and diesel windage tray) taa for the advice! Edited by: hetain
Picture of mine click if it helps at all and you have to take the baffle off, if you use the windage tray.
I don't have a pic of it fitted but I too have a diesel windage tray on my 6A but the baffle on my 16v oil pump was half the size of Oplaii's so I refitted it. Is it likely to cause a problem? Edited by: mr.brown
