As is normal this is rotten so I am going to take it off and replace with fuel hose. Never replaced fuel hoses before, what do I go for an what diameter needed for this section. Cheers Matt
Make sure you get submersible, Cohline 2190 for in the tank, not sure of the diameter: https://www.cohpro.com/low-pressure-hose-and-fittings/hose/fuel-hose/fuel-hose-in-tank-2190.html For everything else use Cohline 2240 which is ethanol resistant: https://www.cohpro.com/low-pressure.../fuel-hose/fuel-hose-low-permeation-2240.html They're a bit more than the normal hose you get but Cohline is an OEM supplier and it's very high quality
Why do I think that the conclusion on another thread was that you can replace that with a piece of rubber hose?
RJ to the rescue. If the outlets are different sizes how can I use hose as this would be a uniform diameter?
good question, hopefully someone has one they can measure the diameters are close enough you can get away with a suitable diameter hose and clamps, just cant recall what that size is
Yep, exactly. I've done the same myself, just can't remember the size of hose... Just checked an old pump I have here and the outlet of the pump is 9mm OD.
We'll be busy changing all the rubber fuel components later in the year, when the new E10 fuel comes out. It's either 'by' or 'from' September 2021, depending on which version of the change you read. "Fuelling a Greener Future"
Hi this is what ive just done yet to test it as yet I will prob make the pipe a little shorter. I have an offcut in soak to test. I did try heritage reducer pipe cut down but it fell to bits soaked in fresh fuel. Hose 9.5mm Codan J30 R9 Pump 9.5mm Assembly 12.5mm Clamps 13-14mm and 18-20mm stainless steel fuel hose clamps. Pipe 50mm ish long 12.5mm tight fit lubrication and manipulate to fit. Cut down bolt on 18-20mm clamp to clear plastic to allow assembly body spring to work.
Between this rubber piece and my experence of changing a dead main pump in November is why I took John's advice 11 years ago and put a Mk3 tank in my 8V. When I sold it the car was on it's 5th pump due to ethanol corrosion. Thankfully the last one was cheap and a doddle to do comparitively. Super fuel will remain E5 regular will be E10 https://www.gov.uk/guidance/e10-petrol-explained
There is Codan 3133 and also Cohline 2240. Is one better than the other? Cohline provide more info on theirs and say it's suitable for ethanol, methanol, etc up to 100%. Codan doesn't give much info. Both are SAE J30 R9. As for submersible in tank hose only Cohline 2190 says it's suitable but it's only available in one size; 7.3mm id and 14.5 od. I read there is an SAE J30 R10 spec for submersible hoses, but that seems a pretty scarce product. Just trying to find what's best.
No you need an NBR/NBR line like 2190. Cohline 2240 is what I use for all external lines, bought from Cohpro. I believe Cohdan 3133 is equivalent, both FKM/FPM lined so very good
Thanks Nate. I'm thinking ahead to when fuel changes from E5 to E10. I'm pretty happy with either Cohline 2240 7.3mm id or Codan 3133 7.9mm id for the external hoses, provided I can bend it to fit to the fuel rail and return from the regulator. It's the small in-tank connector mentioned by Jeff Siddall a few posts above that might be an issue. He says the two diameters are 9.5 and 12.5, and that 9.5 Codan hose (not spec'ed as submersible) would only just fit on the 12.5mm. I suspect the submersible Cohline 2190 would be impossible to fit since it's only available in 7.3 id. Perhaps I should email Coline and Cohpro to ask.
I'm going to put two small sections of 9.5mm Codan J30 R9 into soak. One in fresh petrol and one in ethanol to see what happens to them.
It'll drop to pieces in theory. See page 8: https://www.parker.com/Literature/Fluid Transfer Hose - Europe/Chemical Table.pdf Its a CSM outer hose and that has unsatisfactory fuel resistance but excellent ethanol resistance. NBR - NBR is the only option really, even though that's very hard/impossible. Give cohline-uk.net or Cohpro a call if you haven't already and ask, they might be able to order some
