Amazing work there ! Just wondering how do you work out/set all that 4wd system so its all inline ,when welding it into the chasis ? , Say the rear diff for example are you just making sure either side the measurement is the same ? Jo
pretty much is like that the brackets weve made for the axle to bolt into they bolt into the orignal mounting points for the original rear axle so as long as they are accurate everything else should be ok and now the vehicle is on the floor and we have had another check and it looks pretty good! things like the diff itself you can get away with not having it square as the universal joints will take it out but obviously the more inline you can keep it the better.

Just read this thread for the first time, and can't wait to see it finished, crackng stuff! Made me laugh when you were compared to powernut, same swift progress, same enviable fabrication skills... and can't spell for shoot!! But who cares about spelling when you can have a 4wd 6pot Mk1 !? Awesome
Just had a quick look through to show you what I mean.... must have drunken more than I thought... I meant the 2 compliments though!!
lol admitedly my speling isnt the best in the world! after waiting 3weeks for a specialist to come and build an exhaust onto the car and really couldnt be assed to turn up we started looking at after market pre made exhausts, heres a pic of one that we have at the moment as you can see they are heading for the centre of the tunnel that is no help as there is a transfer box, were going to try and make the one bit of the last three cylinders fit on the first 3 cylinders what goes in the right direction and the other half of it were going to try and reverse so it heads in the opposite direction.
right we started with chopping the 6 pipes off the flanges and welded the pipes and collector from the last three cylinders to the first three cylinders and for the last 3 cylinders we also cut the collector off and rearranged the pipes until we got them pointing in the right direction and we were also able to use the 2 into 1 connector aswell so now i'm just waiting for some extra pipes to link up from the collector into the rest of the exhaust
I have linked up the manifold to the rest of the exhaust system also putting in the exhaust flexy and the holes for the landa sensor so just got to get one of my mates to tig weld the exhaust manifold just to complete it hopefully he will have the aluminium fuel tank done for me so i can start plumbing that up whilst my exhaust is being done.
i got the exhaust have a look at that wooo shiny! so i got them wrapped up and on the car today also fitted gear lever and cables was a bit of a challenge to get the centre console on top of the gear lever as the gear lever had to sit on top of the tunnel as there was no room left in the tunnel so where the original lever fitted it was resessed into the tunnel slightly so i had to extend that up to get the gear lever a little bit lower so the centre console would fit better. pics when i am next down there.
Forgot about this build, amazing fabrication work, 10x neater than anything I could do Keep up the good work!
just a pic of the gear lever you can see where i have cut the bottom of the box off so it's not so long made a bracket to hold the air filter in plase attaches to the side of the head also had tried starting it but was having problems with my cheap fuel regulator not being able to get the pressres up so fortunatly one of my friends happened to have a fuel regulator lying about what has solved that problem. we had quite a few splutters and coughs but i need to get down there with a timing light really to see whats going on. shouldnt be long now cant wait.
