    Hello,

I'm currently looking to buy a Mk2 90 spec and i came across a 1988 F reg 8v GTi with bigbumpers, 90spec doors, sunroof, trip computer but no elec windows and the owner says that he has been told by a dealership that this came standard on this car. - is this correct???

Pics on link - anyone know the colour?

No that's why it's called 90's spec. You got it on late G reg which was 1990. Mt 1989 G reg was small bumper.

    Yors was 89 spec.

Maybe they started earlier on the 8v's? My 89 Valver was small bumpers and hazard switch on the dash not behind the wheel. The 8v above has the 90's spec loom as the hazard is behind the wheel.

90's spec was form August 89 for 1990 model year.
    89 on the Jetta's.

Maybe the small bumper cars were built early 89 but registered late 89 as G reg cars were as the big bumper cars were built late 89 and registered as 89 G and onwards.

Still doesn't explain the 88 F plate above. Yeah the kit could be added but the later loom is not likely to have been changed.

I remember a post where a dealer saw a Rallye and thought it was a bodykit on a GTI.

is there any other way to tell between 90 spec and non 90 spec apart from the hazard switch?

The sunroof and trip computer would have been standard. The front doors without the quarter light aren't classed as '90 spec as they started on the '88 model year. I'm sure the big bumpers etc were not original after looking into it most big bumper model cars started on the '90 model year (G reg), however there are some '89 original big bumper models. Not sure why those cars hung around long enough to get the later spec bumpers etc, or maybe they just started a little earlier than the actual '90 model year. They definately wouldn't have started as early as an F reg '88 though. There are quite a few earlier small bumper cars that have been converted to the big bumper spec.

Has this car got the correct '90 spec arch and thinner style side trims? As there is a difference there.

Translated from a very in depth french page

In July 1989, the Golf GTI 8 and 16 S from now on are equipped with shields before and back with fog integrated series, side rods finer, and of black bottoms of cases.

Meaning big bumpers with fogs and thinner side strips.
