As per title, what fuel pump are people using for big power Mk2 20v Turbo's?

    So a few questions -

    - On a Mk2 there is a pump in the tank and one under the car by the fuel filter. What do both of these do?

    - If I was to fit a suitable Weldro etc inline pump would this work? It's also been suggested to use a Bosch 044 pump as found on Cossy RS500s

    - If the above wouldn't work, is a Mk3 VR6 tank & pump up to the job or would I still need a bigger pump? It has been suggested that a Mk3 tank is a direct fit (with Mk3 tank straps) and this has a larger single in tank pump. If I fit a Mk3 pump & tank do I ditch the pump underneath?

    Any help or advice welcome!

one in the tank is a lifter pump, take petrol to the main pump which then flow to the engine.

there was a mk2 with a 400hp 20v on slicks in a mag with 16v pumps so i assume that would work

Mk2 16v pump produces much more flow and pressure than the G60 items or the VR6 ones

But will it supply enough fuel for 400 BHP?

Stealth reckon the standard one is good for up to about 280hp.

Toyotec replied the last time I said that with a reply that went way over my head. I'll see if I can find it.

    EDIT: Here it is.

    Did I?....lol!
Not too sure the Mk2 K jet pump will be good for 400bhp of fuel flow. 320sih yes but not 400.

in tank pump would be lift pump, so you may find the in line bosch044 or walbro 255 equivalent will suffice also, but the K-Jet pump I am using (std golf fitment!) supports >500bhp from 750cc injectors running on a 4bar fpr. S3 pump is serving as a lift pump feeding the in line K-jet one. You may find you are ok already if a K-Jet based car to start with

Mk2 is a bit different Bill. The fuel tank isnt baffled so you have to use the accumulator. Only problem being is that the 16v pump isnt man enough to supply the fuel.

Keep the stock lift pump in the tank, run it into a fuel swirl tank and use a Bosch 044 fuel pump to feed the engine. Its not a nice simple setup, but what it will do is make sure your engine has enough fuel and means it wont get starved during cornering.

I tried running the 044 pump without the accumulator and the car runs lean during cornering and will jerk as its runnin gout of fuel.

    Damn..
I was thinking of getting a intank bosch 044, or the walbro.
So, what is the fuel swirl tank?

mine runs the kjet accumulator also.
S3 in tank, Kjet in line. >500bhp 750cc running @ 4bar fpr, no shortage of fuel, no surging.

So, does the S3 lift pump work in the mk2 tank?

Can I get away with just the bosch or walbro INTANK and no more pumps? (deleting the under the car pump and accumulator)?

So can I keep the standard lift pump (car was a 1990 Mk2 8v GTi) and the fuel accumulator, filter etc and just replace the Mk2 under car pump with a Bosch 044 etc?

Will the accumulator stop the surge issue due to lack of tank baffles?
Will the in tank pump be able to keep up?

Bugger. So what's the simplest solution? Don't want to run a swirl pit etc in the car for safety reasons. And will the std lift pump be up to feeding the Bosch 044?

I think a Walbro 255 will fit into the in tank S3/Ibiza/golf4 applications
