Once I get the loom and connectors I’ll make a start. I still have to wait for my mk2 to get back from her extended stay in the states, which should be around mid June

with the kufatec loom you need both the seat relay looms from a mk3 donor, its clipped under the seats and possibly the thermistor out of a mk1/2/3 seat pad as well to get rhem going. see how you go with the ones in your mk5 seats though someone mentioned mk4 pad ones work fine

Will the relays for the mk5 seats work? I’m not the best with electrics

Think these are the photos, this is a pair of seats I collected for the top man @PhilRyder , mk3 gti recaro, bonus to find heated seat relays when loading in the boot of the car.
Looks like that is the loom, unfortunately I didn't have any further photos @afbiker02 .
Looking at it now, I'm quite glad that I used the passat switches (mk4 style but vertically) loom was simple, and direct, look OK in the lower console, but admittedly it's not original mk2.

Thanks for that. Once I get everything I’ve ordered in the post, I’ll start putting the loom altogether and figuring out how it all works. I’ll have a lot of questions for everyone but hopefully the loom will be sorted by the time my mk2 gets back to the UK this summer

Some more pics of my connections as above.

What’s attached to the seat. The two cut wires run to the seat back and are brown and brown/black

This is a useful thread as I will be fitting these seats to the MK2 and will need to know what runs from dashboard switches and fusebox to the seat loom.

I cheated and bought a heated seat kit from Amazon wired from the battery.
Modded a MK2 blank for the switch

But I guess you are already committed to wiring-up the ed30 seats to your switch.
I do like the ed30 seats.

Just thought of this @afbiker02 but 53fab were talking of making subframe to fit mk5 seats in the mk2, I got my tt subframes off them so may be worth an enquiry. Bolt in job then.

I just had a look and they do make subframes, not too expensive either. Thanks

Was a good solution, and as you say not bad for price either, puts the sparco subframes to shame at £200+ for 4 bits of angle iron.

That looks very tidy and I was thinking of doing the same thing with a set of mk5 gti seats but then I found the edition 30 seats cheap.

Well I finally got my looms. I just need to figure out how to get from the mk3 loom to the mk5 seat. I also need help with a few other things. 1. Do I need to swap pins in the plug for the mk2 switch? 2.What wires are for power and where do I get power from on the fuse box? 3. What do all the wires on the seat do, I want to be able to wire it all correctly.

    1. You bought that section from kuffatec right? If it was made as a standard MK3 loom, then yes you need to swap 2 of the pins round. If they made it for you to suit a MK2 switch then no

    2. since all the wires are white, this is tricky. squinting I think I can see wiring on the wires, so check what that says. The brown plug should be the earth anyway, its made to fit the MK3 earth rose. the 2 black plugs are ignition and illumination. if the wiring has no clues can just check where they go into the loom

    3. 6 pin plug:
1 - backrest pad heater earth
2 - backrest pad heater power
3 - seat pad heater earth
4 - seat pad heater power
5 - seat pad thermistor signal
6 - seat pad thermistor earth

    4 pin plug:
    1 - switch plug
    2 - switch plug
    3 - ignition live
    4 - earth

    MK5 seat
    Clipboard02.jpg Clipboard03.jpg

you only care about the wires each side for the seat pads and thermistor. no guarantees the thermistor is same curve as the mk1/2/3 one but worth a shot

Thanks RJ. I think for the connector going from the loom to the seat I'm going to get a mk5 seat pigtail and splice it in.

Yes, I bought the harness from kuffatec. The wires are numbered 1-7 in the 7 pin plug for the switch. The only thing else I’m missing is the female plug for the mk5 seat harness. If I can’t find one I think I’ll just get a VAG connector of some kind from the scrappy and just repin the plugs accordingly

right so swap pins 5 and 7 over to convert mk3 loom to suit mk2 switch. check that middle pin as well, its been pushed out of the plug. hopefully it just wasnt clicked fully home, worst case the plug housing is damaged and the pin cant latch in properly. or maybe the pin itself has damaged latches, though I'd assume kuffatek uses all new pins so unlikely
