Ta so beetie. They look spot on, but as I wrote bellow, Lemforder's e-cat shows both that design, and the later one, depending on how one searches. Is there no Lemforder label or painted on pt. no.? I really need it if it's there as Lemorder's internal part numbers have changed over the years.
That are the ones that I bought from ecp. I have a pic of the bag they came in showing that part number in my build thread.
Ta so Gambit. They are the facts I need. And, if my memory serves, they are very useful facts. I looked at beetie's photo but as I zoomed in it just blurred.
I have done as much research as I feel necessary at the moment. I do hope to collect more data in the future but that information will rely on help from others of which I cannot be certain. Phil Hall at Euro has offered to help. Firstly. I knew zero about VAG cars produced after 1992, so I was completely unaware that VW, in another one of their stupid decisions, changed the design of the Mk2 wishbone for fitment to later cars. Even more stupid is changing the part numbers on the Mk2s etka from 191 407 151B to 191 407 153. (I believe that the earlier number is correct for the 1986 wishbone, but I cant be sure as my only access these days is via Vagcat. I cant get my 1992 etka CD to load.) That this newer design is cheaper to produce must be a marketing decision to save a couple of Euro. I wonder if it ever went through a proper engineering assessment as the eccentric positioning of the rear bush tube is not Good Engineering Practice, unless you are designing in eccentric loads on purpose! That it is Fit for Purpose on a road car I have no doubts. But for serious punishment, the earlier design is better. I like Lemforder parts. Where there were part numbers, etc., they were pukka VAG right down to the correct colour codes. I know something about aftermarket parts from GKN times. We or did not have the staff to sell spares, e.g. Clutch Driven Plates, Cover assemblies, Overdrive Parts, etc., for older units which had stopped being supported by car manufacturers. There were two categories of parts: Made In and Bought Out. Out of the thousands of parts we used about 99.9% were MI. So for spares we had to make them as we trusted no one to make parts for us. We tried and they were crap.(I was actually, in 1983, Technical Manager for a company that made aftermarket copies of gearbox parts. They were crap and I could not change things so I left after just 4 weeks.) I also know, from experience, how hard it is to get old parts made in a factory geared up for present day mass production. My final position before I left Laycocks was Manager of the Overdrive Spares and Refurbishment Department. I also had a spell were I had to get parts made for Brabham twin plate racing clutches. I was only 24 at the time so had absolutely no pull with the big bosses. Trying to get parts made for old units was uber difficult as the Machine shop managers were only interested in their own numbers and certainly not mine. Even if it was for Ferrari or Maserati units that were worth a lot. I even resorted to going in at weekends, if there was no overtime on, and setting up machines to make parts myself. The 0.1% that were BO were: Some clutch driven plate friction discs and release bearings. All overdrive solenoid valves and bearings. We even made the overdrive output flanges cos. the Ford and Vauxhall ones were not good enough and the Volvo ones were uber expensive to import. So, like the BO stuff at Laycocks, VAG may well have given companies of Lemforder's high standing the job of supplying old parts from the original OE suppliers.Even if, unlike Sachs, Boge and ZF they did not manufacture the original parts. I wish ZF had made the RHD steering racks as they did the LHD ones! You work it out folks, but as far as I can see either Lemforder staff have: Just completely got images and part numbers mixed up? They only sell 191 407 153? Or that they are selling both designs and it's pot luck what you get? 2005 InCat - This only refers to 191 407 153A 2013 PDF catalogue. 2015 ECat 2015 ECat 2015 ECat Good looking aftermarket found with 191 407 151B Not so good looking aftermarket found with 191 407 151B
Nice work Dave! I can confirm that 191407153 was dropped on 31/7/1987, and replaced with 191407153A. Then on 30/9/92 191407153A was dropped and replaced with 191407151B!
Saturday there. If its "Phil Hall" in Belfast/ECP you reference in a previous post then he'll be able to tell you exactly what part numbers was ordered as i get all my stuff through him
Small world? I will be speaking to him later today. I'll email photos to him before I do. Ta so. Dave
What came of this at the end, are all the aftermarket wishbones poor?. May need a pair for my Mk2 16v but don't want to buy a weaker part than that was already fitted?.
Holy thread resurrection Batman. We’ve not long fitted a pair and they were fine. Couldn’t tell you the make, eBay jobbies.
