To my wife’s despair I’ve embarked on another mk2 gti project.
After doing 3 previous mk2 golfs,a mk1 cabrio and a mk5 gti dsg.I’ve got bored and feel the need to get my hands dirty again.
The missus don’t get it but I’m happy as a pig in s**t rolling around in the dirt with rusty metal dropping in my face lol.
But being a lover of mk2 gtis I could t pass up doing this 3 door digifant small bumper 1988.
Only had it for about 10 days bought
It blind and took a risk.but after a day on it today a bit of tinkering new fuel pump and lift pump and it’s already a runner.
Plan to just get it tidy and pretty stock.
They’ll be some progress pics in due course
And I know if I get stuck the( RJ ) will be on hand with info as he should be renamed mr haynes.

These cars are so cheap and easy to work on. If I had a big garage and wasn’t in ULEZ I’d probably be stripping and restoring them. There isn’t much margin in it but it’s fun and interesting to do.

Took out fuel tank and was the same as all the others I’ve taken out in the past.loads of mud and debris trapped up behind filler neck.
Now nice and clean to install after some body repairs. E48E10FC-CF02-4F6C-AECF-EBF68197906B.jpeg

Still learning on the mig but kind of got an idea took me long enoughjust getting used to wire speed etc.
Funny thing is I got used to my last wire reel and then ran out. bought another same 0.8 thickness and it is like learning again.the wire I’m using now seems to burn hotter quicker and burn through is a problem if I’m not carefull

I've fitted some. The fit isn't perfect but I was trying to use as few fasteners as possible.
