1990> Out of interest why are you going for an ABF rather than the block or a 9A from a Raddo or Passat.
Much less hastle as you can use loads of your original components, Head, GBox etc etc???

Yes, i'm 8valves short of a picnic to begin with:lol:

I bought the late 8v because i was told that was the easiest car to put the complete 2.0 16v abf into. I would rather do the whole engine rather than swapping heads/blocks etc... all that oil is bad for my soft skin.

Fair enough, but even so why the ABF over the 9A (complete conversion) is it because of availability???

ABF's are newer and are a complete 2ltr without the need to mix and match parts etc. They also run Digi like the late 8v's you dont have to worry about changing the fuel pump either.........

Because i can get a nice low mileage one from lots of different cars...toledo, ibiza, cordoba or golf (any others?) and i think it looks neater than the 9a or does the 9a look the same [:s]

Do you think i can get up and running with the abf and still stay within my 2000 budget?

So far i have spent 737 on the car and mods (less what i get for the rainbow seats and mk3 doorcards on ebay)

I need another 100 for the tyres and 500 for a repaint so that leaves me 663 (plus the money from e-bay) for the engine etc...

    Let me get this straight..
    I have a digi 8v.
Is an 16v ABF swap straight forward because of the fuelling system?

What cars do 16v ABf units come in?
    Mk3 Golf...

its not a straight swap but the fueling is the same. K-Jet requires a higher fuel pressure so needs a bigger pump.........

From what i know and what has been said in this thread a ABF will go straight in to a MK2 8v (90 Spec) using the same fuel system, subframe and suspension and brake set up. You have a choice of Gearbox (rod or cable change) and can use the 8v exhaust (needed a slight mod to fit the lambda). Only real head ache is sorting out the loom as it includes the wiring for the headlights etc as well.

These engines are found in Seats aswell, Ian has posted a list further up this page...........

Are mk2 8 and 16v sumbrames/wishbones the same, just the hubs different?

I have a 16v complete subframe (frame, wishbones, arb, hubs etc...) at home and if i can use that i will get it blasted/powder coated now and rebuilt with the coilovers on ready for the engine to sit on, here it is.
