IIRC the MK3 and the MK2 8v water pumps are the same. So you can use either.

oil leak around distrubutor on mk2 2l 8v

I recently had a 2l conversion for my 8v mk2 done, but it has developed an oil leak around the area by the dizzy. i took it back to the garage that did it and they said that apparantly the mk3 block uses a different seal here and that they made one up for it. but as it is leaking they said they have to order a special part for it, fine i say. but problem is i've been waiting 2 months and still no part and i'm gettin annoyed with my car dropping oil when it has been fully rebuilt! anyone know anything about this? or what i can do about it?

sorry for the waffle and i hope i have made myself clear,
    greg

Just completed my Mk2 2.0 conversion and it's magic! [:D]

So much more low down torque and power; you can really feel the difference. :)

Managed to fit a Mk3 camsgaft cover and cam belt covers. ;)

No downpipe problems - it fits a treat.

All I can say is, do it! :)

I'm thinking about a 2l conversion for my scirocco (1.8 8v dx) but most of the articles relate to mk2 Golf. Is it the same for the dx and which bottom end should I use 3a/2e?

    Thx
    Chris

Does anyone bother with the 1.8 short block bored out & with the diesel crank nowadays for their conversions?

Just wondering because that's what mine came from in the mk1.

I looked into it but the extra expense of boring then fitting new pistons or oversize rings against the price of a 2.0, just made more sense to go with a new block at 100.

    Inlet Manifold on 2L conversion

I suspect a few people will laugh at this!!
Have just fitted my new engine with AGG block, whilst putting the engine in I neglected to fit the inlet manifold on as I was missing 2 of the studs.
The Haynes manual says to fit it with the the engine in situ is not possible!! this is slightly upsetting to me as it is almost complete and it was a real pain lining up the engine mounts when i fitted and I really do not want to go down that road again in a hurry!
Has anyone out there managed to remove and fit one with the engine in situ? If so any tips? I gather as the block is slightly taller does not do the task any favours!
    Cheers

A big valve head is exactly that, a cylinder head with larger valves fitted!

Larger valves = more air into and out of the engine.

Usually a big valve head takes the exhaust valves from 33mm to 35mm and the inlet valves remain the same, these are generally known as stage C heads. Stage D heads have slightly larger inlet valves. From 40mm to 40.5mm if i remember correctly.

More porting/removal on the D & slightly different valve shape/finish.

I'm gonna be changing my 1.8 for the 2.0 2E block in the next coming weeks. can i do a striaght swap gearbox, clutch fly wheel wise. how long should it take to do a weekend?

Also does bocking the block breather afect the runnig of the engine?

oh 1 other thing would a super sprit exhaust mani 4-2-1 fit as the block sits 20 odd mm higher

Everything does swap over, make sure you use the 2E 4 trigger window dizzy, or the adaptor ring from TSR. For the manifold use the mk3 one for a perfect fit.
