Scroll down this thread for pic updates....

Got some lovely blue suede material today, to retrim the centre section of my door cards. Im going to trim between the black sections, where the horrid grey material is at the moment.

2 questions: anyone ever removed the plastic strips that separate the black plastic and material sections? ill tuck the fabric under there. Is the strip hard to glue / attach back on?

and how the hell am i going to do this without the fabric creasing around the curved sections?! [:s]

with great difficulty i reckon, what t odo is look through magazines and look ast the way some people have had it done, best get an old door card and some material and practice with some glue and a staple gun.

Oh man! You are very brave, and admire I that ;) . First some gung-ho grinding, and now a cracking bit of interior destruction!

I have always wanted to do this but have had no idea how you contour the new material over the card. I always imagine some form of vacum sealer is required.

Moved by your impressive disregard of possible disaster I may follow suit and rip the lifeless interior out of my machine. At worst its an incentive to get the job done.
I wish you all the luck in the world, keep updating how you're getting on.

very ambitious indeed, after aquiring a new corrado interior for my golf [:D] im thinking of doing my doorcards too.

Was either going to retrim or build new ones out of some mdf, so i could fit some decent ice in them [:[]

    has anyone built new ones?

Erm I guess the answer rich is to do it very slowly and take your time with spray adhesive try to tack the top down maybe and work down the door card making just its taught to stop creasing?

well ive just been out and bought some evo-stik timebond adhesive - supposed to be really good stuff. going to cut the fabric up and give it a go, with sections at a time then when it dries on the flat bits, press down hard and try to stretch the fabric in the curved bits...

and AL - my impressive disregard of possible disaster is helped by a 'lets rip a corner then ill have to do the whole lot' policy.... ;)

A fine policy! That does it, I'm going to track down some black suede.

Thats how I'd go about it too, start by sticking down the top flat section, let it dry then.... Hang on! I've just had a thought, how about getting hold of another door card and using the rear of it as an inverted mold to push the material in to the recess? If you see what I mean?

You could perhaps clamp it in position with some force behind it, save yourself numb fingers holding it in place yourself.

Don't know if it would work or not. [:s]

i sorta get what you mean, but am not fully comprehending as im quite munted off these glue fumes, i kid you not [:s] Do this in a well ventilated area kids, not in your bedroom which has no airflow even with all the windows open.

ooh, the computer screen is moving..... woooo........
