Doing it all the time would, but taking it to the red (all the time:lol: ) and beyond (occasionally:lol: ) does the car some good.

I shouldnt hammer my car around so much:lol:

I had 135 according to the road angel in mine and it was still wanting to go more, maybe I'll try it when I've had it set up properly.

Oh, the old 1.8 got wound round to 136 on the clocks but I didn't have GPS to give me an accurate speed....

A sprinter will do way over that, but they are governed down like hell, the sprinter hire van i had last year was brand spankers but governed to 3.5krpm, it was one of the huge mothers that are like a tunnel inside, with the BIG turbos that didn't spool up until almost 3krpm. It was like driving a bloomin 2 stroke. it did 105 at 3.5krpm. The last sprinter i drove was governed to 3.25krpm though and only managed about 98 [8(]

My transit is a 51 plate with 105k on it though so it's not doing too badley, lol.

Dont they say a speedo is set to be 10% out so if its reading 140 in actual fact you are only doing 126.
Iv no idea who 'they' are though.

'they' would be the institutions of practice and knowledge in engineering!

As previously mentioned, speedos are most accurate below 70, so 10% tolerance at twice that, is quite feasible.

140 down to 126 would make sense, as that is the top advertised speed of the car. Is this speed on the limiter or simply not pulling any more?

    I tested mine down the Emthree drag strip last weekend, and it hit a wall at a platry indicating 120mph. 108ish then. I assume this to be because of a few factors;
    1. Front splitter not attached at the off side corner, held on with ducktape. Which was not held on after a few minutes at top speed.
    2. Knackered gearbox uses more energy making noise than it does moving the car forwards.
    3. Dented wings probably not helping the drag CF.

Will have to get this fixed. 108mph is simply not enough.

i suspect those factors may have played minimal roles, but a greater factor exists....that is,...anyone believing their 20yr old valver is still producing 139hp, is very misguided!

tho 108 is more to be expected from a 8v tbh.

I know they would play a minimal role, but given the relative underpoweredness of the engine, the fact its probably losing half that through the box and the fact that the power needed to overcome drag increase with the cube of speed, the drag would play a noticeable effect in this instance. Only guessing though, it may have made it faster...

Not a valver I know, but my brother's 8v GTi goes only to 110 :/ Must be something wrong with it...

I don't think it deserves to have the GTI badge on it...
