    Hey all.

Im getting pretty close to the wear markers on my Toyo R888's.

I will probably replace all. Am looking at Yokohama A048's. Not sure on whether to go soft or medium.

However these are very expensive. Has anyone had any experience of a lightweight mk2 on any of the other available track day tyres? I believe lots of manufacturers make them these days (Nankang etc).

    Cheers

Unless you need to drive on the road, the 888`s can go waaaay past the wear markers ! I run them until they are almost bald ;)

I wouldn`t get soft on a trackday car, they`ll overheat. Medium or hard are what you want

    It's a track only car.

Looks like I'll keep the 888's for a bit yet then. See how they get on after my first couple of outings this year.

A048 work well on a mk2. Excellent tyre.

Haven't done many trackdays, but I would only use a soft if was proper sub zero. You want the hardest tyre you can run, as performance in the first 1-3 laps is irrelevant

Hi. It's a 89 16v. With ABF on twin 45 Webers. Has a flowed and ported head with triple angled valves.
Fully stripped, caged, underseal removed, Full re spray. Fibreglass bonnet and tailgate. Perspex windows.
Gaz coilovers. Rose jointed lower wishbones. Mk4 rear disc conversion.
Has a mk4 CZM box, rebuilt with a Wavetrac LSD.
Quite a lot of work done. Still a few jobs to do aswell.

I have been to Bluton Park in it twice. I reckon I'll do a good few days at cadwell too this year.
Maybe over to Oulton Park at some point, as it's close to my parents.

    That's awesome. You'd love Cadwell, it's a great circuit.
Mine runs approx 180bhp. I could probably squeeze a little more out of it, but its seems reliable at that.

Think I'll keep on the 888's for the next few days, and run them almost bald as Nige recommends. But once I change i'll keep you updated.

Would still love some feedback on the Federal's, Nankang's etc.

Been looking at donning ton as my mate runs track days there and could take some different customers there;)
Was told my car 200bhp when bought it but don't think it's very near that :( only got 40 bhp out of it at rr but two injectors were knackered  think it's running ok now but need to do a bit more fiddling yet[:D] when I get time [:s]

At 58 I'd be tempted by nankangs but think my local tyre guy might do a good price on the federals not sure will have to ask him. But also got quite a few road tyres I will probably use these up first , can learn car control at lower speeds

As with everything, you get what you pay for. If it's track only, 888's, A048R's and Direzza's are miles ahead of the Federals etc IMO.

Personally, I always go for A048R's. In Medium compound they'll last you ages with that power/weight.
