    2 more questions:

    1) how do you remove the bulbs from the holders?:o
    2) if you connect the senders with thicker wires than the original ones, can it cause unprecise reading?

    thx

should just twist the fitting round then they will pop out, mine were a bit stiff though so used some plyers to turn the fitting round.

shouldnt make a difference, aslong as it carries the currency down.

twist the fitting- are you talking about removing the holder from the gauge?
because i mean how to remove the bulb itself from the black holder:)

yesterday i finally installed the oil temp sender, and i discovered that the needle barely moves.
after 20 minutes of drive the gauge looks like this:

    is it normal that way?

i thing that 1st marker is around 100* isnt it,you dont want it to go much higher than that really, you may find it could go higher stuck in traffic as they say
i put the wrong sender on mine initially and it hit the 130* mark, the blue sender did take it down but cant remember where ,my clock have been out so long

I might be going slightly off topic here but, what facias are people using to mount the gauges? I did play with the Audi 80 one but the bottom corners weren't right.

my panel was bought from some yankee dude and it mounts in the radio hole. i'm not sure if it's homemade, but unlike the standard radio panels the gauges are inclining towards the driver (like in the audi panel). i glued it to the bezzel, and the gauges don't need the metal frames to hold them because they sit tight in the holes.
if i need to remove them i take out the heater panel and push them from behind:).

sorry what i meant was look at the gauge, it goes right up to 170, way over what you'll ever see on a vw lump really. this is why it only goes up that tiny amount on the gauge. where you see it there is just about 80 degrees i think. basically these vdo oil temp gauges arnt much use as they're too wide range, ideally what we need is one that reads from say 50 to 130 with 90 in the middle

Is your car left hand drive? I can just see it in the picture. I'd love a genuine Votex one for my Votex console but that will be if I could find one.

so is 80 degrees ok? but why does it take it so long to get there?
actually all of those gauges aren't of much use i think.
why should i care what's the oil temp or pressure or voltage?

    yes.

thats just how long it takes for the oil to warm up, this is why the vdo oil temp isnt much use on a vw becasue it takes ages to even read anything. oil pressure though is very usefull to know, as is the voltage ;)

can you rev the engine as soon as the coolant temp reaches the normal zone even if the oil is still cool?

tried that, and the bulbs of course broke.
could it be that that they can't be removed and new holders have to come?
