    Quite right again BrisFit.

But, if you think my comments are sour grapes, they are not. After I saw my manufactured effort, together with the other photos, I realised how 'manufactured' and childish it is! I would have been embarassed to win with it. I don't think it should have been second[:x]

it is as mark25 suggested a mother board with SERIOUS dust!!
only way i couldnt make it look like a mother board was by over exposing lots and lots!! it felt unatural even for a high key shot!!!

the definition for abstract as far as i was concerned was an image where you cannot make out what the subject is...

    Rubbish. [:s]
It was second because people like it, you shouldn't lessen their votes by talking it down now. [8(]

    Right object, wrong angle. :)

It's our old garden bench, against the wall of the house. I wetted the pebbledash to get the pebbles to shine.

As Stella pointed out (tactfully) when I sent it through, it would have been better in last month's competition (texture). [:$]

I liked it, even though I thought it was a railway rail and sleepers!

I wasn't sure what abstract was either, but I took a picture that I thought was good then promptly lost it! I only found it again tonight, dumped in a folder where it shouldn't have been on the wrong PC. I had to dump the pics in a rush in order to clear a memory card - having washed my other two (including the super-fast one) in my jeans pocket!

The bloke at Calumet told me that they tested several makes of campact flash cards to destruction, including washing machine, micro-waving, running over with a car etc and they still worked. So I'm hoping my two will work again when they've dried out. Maybe I shouldn't have made matters worse by giving them an extra cycle with fabric conditioner too! [:$]

Yay! Thanks again to everyone who voted.

I`m glad the subject choice had the desired effect of making people think and generate debate... ;)

To my mind `abstract` in photography generally involves images of everyday objects taken from interesting angles/perspectives or with unusual lighting that don`t make it obvious, at first, what the object is.

    Intricate architecture is usually the best subject matter. For example;

    http://www.flickr.com/search/?w=all&q=Architectural+Abstract&m=text

For me, No.4 met that `criteria` so got my vote.

And for those still wondering, mine is of tramlines in Manchester city centre... ;)

    congratulations chap,
i do however respectfully dissagre stumc, in all the images shown on flikr i could tell most were buildings so there fore not abstract.... i asked my ex tutor (was once a university proff with some kind of photography) and he said something which really summed it up perfectly.

"An absract image is an image which you cannot tell what it is. BUT of course everyone can and cannot recognize different shapes, angles and perspectives so one mans 'abstract' image is not so abstract to another"

it was just down to who had the same taste as you. cangratulations any way chap.

I completely agree with that! I think abstract is how each individual looks at an object. Lets face it we all look at things differently!

Thanks, its a stair case just for reference by the way.

    Congratulations Stu.
Give us plenty to think about again this month. :)

Everytime I look at it, I see it for a different angle (Esher-like).
Put me out of my misery, did you lean over a rail to look down, or were you standing up with the camera horizontal? [:s]
