So should it run on ignition too then? Or not? If its purely a run on pump, i cant see why it needs to.
I found the connector for the ignition live and earth under the dash tray near the fusebox. So thats what those are for! Bloody engine conversions! I have wired those in, as well as a relay from the rad fan, so it will kick in when the fans are on. My only problem is no way of controlling the pump after i turn the engine off as i dont have a suitable timer relay. So for the time being i will have to sit there with the keys turned in the ignition for a while. Can anyone tell me typically how long the pump normally runs for once the ignition is turned off?
No idea, but a cheapo "interior light delay" from Maplin or someone, running a relay would be easy to hook up to control it.
What's the engine out of originaly On My old 97 golf VR6 the coolant run on pump used to carry on running without the fan being on when the engine had just been switched off.But on the Corrado VR6 that i've got now the pump only operates when the cooling fan is running. Edited by: HEARDY
I'm not sure but i would say it probably only works when the cooling fan is on and obviously when the engine is running it should be going all the time. Have you checked to see if there is a power to the pump with the ignition is on?
I have wired the pump to the ignition live now, so that would be a yes! I have also wired a relay to the fan switch, which acts as the trigger for the permanent live wired into the relay. The last 2 times ive driven the car, ive just sat in it for 30 seconds with the ignition on after i shut her off, just to be on the safe side. Need to protect this engine, its too powerful to damage.
Bugger. Anyone know where i can get a suitable timer relay for 12v applications? Ive checked RS, but their relays are far too complex. I just want something simple for use on it.
That would do it i would have thought, and just use the output to drive a another hevy duty realy. As the fans take quite a bit current judging by the thickness of the wires on the Corrado VR6 loom i have got in my lounge
