My Mate Bargate has just got hold of a VW Motorsport 16v ABF (Kitcar Engine)

We were amazed at the spec on the Flywheel used :o

The Engine isn't a full spec Kitcar Engine as it had been rebuild by TSR a couple of year ago but still good for 225bhp and rev's to 9000rpm ;)

Lol I bid on that, and Tonyb got the box and clutch assembly.
He also has a flywheel too, nice isn't it.

I bet when you brake it down its not overly special, with some of the boys on here with similar or higher spec. Still nice though.

KCD = Kent Cams? Also stamped on the pulley...

The cams don't look all that lairy, in terms of the lobe width. I think you need to strip it down and see what you've really got there. I suspect the head on that has been replaced - maybe due to past damage, or maybe the bottom end was bought without an original head on it, and built up to the full engine.

Valve stems look like standard width, looking at the pics down the ports. It's not screaming 'works spec' at me. Hopefully it was still fairly cheap, for the collection of bits you have.

Cambelt end engine mount looks pretty 'trick' too.

Yeah i thought they were Kent but been trying to find that Ref No.

The Head has had the inlet side machine to prevent the cam lobes catching so must be over 12mm lift

The Engine came complete with TB's and Engine Mangement c/w loom for just over 1.5k so good price i would say (alot cheaper than buying your own) .

like you say think its had a new blcok and head , with all the old VWM stuff bolted back on .

That looks really nice, you did well there.

I bet it rev's like a bike engine?

PS: I see the standard TSR blue paint on the block.

This is the MK3 the Engine is out of.

There's a thread on here about 3 pages long about the car it came out of, in the motorsport section I think, 'MK3 kit car for sale' - something like that. The car was a Group A SBG VWMS car and then converted to a semi kit car spec later on with the addition of the proper sequential box (supposedly ex McRae). Seems the motor was full GPa but blew up from what I could make out and then rebuilt by TSR with what was salvageable. Bargain for what it went for, proper engine and will have proper parts in side I reckon.

The guy who ran it seemed to have the car for many years and certainly spent some money on the box in that time, then sold and stood for a while before being stripped. The guy who sold it seemed tidy enough as well. Was meaning to contact the original owner to see if he had a the ratio's and LSD specs for the box to save me stripping it.

Saw the car at a Croft tarmac stage rally some time ago and made a beeline to have a chat with him. From what he said, he seems he has spent proper money running the set-up.

Very odd looking engine - combination of some very nice bits, and some totally stock ones!

Does it still run the OEM crank sensor? It looks like it might in the pics.
