dunno if it's probably been done before or not (or if anybody cares[:^(] ) but what sort of power gain can i expect to get (realistically) from a performance webber carb on a 1600cc 91 golf mk2 driver engine. and how do i tune one in?

thats a fair difference:o wasn't expecting that much really, how do they adjust it using the rolling road? do they take the readings and adjust the butterflies as necessary and air fuel mixture?

i believe they replace the jets and emulsion tubes etc and then fine tune the adjustables on the carb on the RR

I put one on mine, job didnt take long and had it set up for emissions at a local garage. Even without messing about with any jets it makes the car much more driveable and smoother.

i was told that the emissions will be a prolem if not setup correctly? by a guy i know who works for VW and that its a fairly straight foward procedure on the dyno.

Oh aye, if you dont have it set up by a garage using an emissions tester its likely to run very rich out of the box.

The instructions that come with the webber are pretty good and the whole swap took me about an hour and a half (mainly because of regular tea breaks). Then I ran it to the garage and asked them to check the emissions, that only took a few minutes.

The Mk1 driver conversion uses a different weber carb.

I have a 32DMTR on my 1.3 mk2. Great upgrade but it has started drinking fuel over the past 2 weeks! Never got it set up though.

i bought a Mk2 golf 1.8 CL a while back and i'm in the middle of converting from the pierburg to a weber. got the weber off ebay for 60 but obviously didn't have any of the rest of the kit i need, so the conversion is taking a while to find all the bits i need.

The car never ran properly so i had nothing to lose. my only worry is the auto gearbox not being able to take the strain after i mess with the engine (i plan to do quite a bit to it.)

anybody else got the automatic box?

also, can anyone suggest where i can buy the kit without the carb?
