Cheers Gurds - will put a pic up of your M10 version later.

Continuing to search for on off-shelf one if I can find one...

Turns out these bolts seem to be known as 'sleeve nuts'.

Found one on eBay, in M6:

....though need an M8, and could do with one with more strength around the head and ideally with a hex head.

Does anyone know of any mega nut & bolt suppliers I could try? Or other suggestions?

    Cheers.

Don't worry Alan, I've now had some M8 threaded hex bar turned down last night, courtesy of steve r. Will post up pics when I get a mo.

But if you come across anything interesting at PHF, it'll be useful to know

There's a UNC version on a land rover v8 exhaust manifold. You'd have to re-cut the threads, and probably insert the female side.

    Action from last night's lathery:

^^ M8 threaded hex bar we started with (top left), pattern M8 flat headed sleeve nuts (right) used for furniture, rather than more critical steering racks, hence not trusted to be up to the job.

And two turned down threaded hex bars, lower left, second one with snug washer on it.

Big thanks to steve r and his Dad for being able to do s/thing like this, on a mid-week night, meaning I can crack straight on with the car this w/end. The beer is cold in Nurburg ;)

Oh, and big thanks to vrbanana and vw_singh, who also stepped in with other ideas along the way, and those posting on the thread.

came across some at work today and remembered this thread, thought I was onto a winner as they had 13mm hex heads but the threaded sleeve part is m10

Looks useful - do you recall what it's off / where to buy them?

It's a volvo truck part, I think they're used for the cylinder head covers, I shall have a look for a pt number next week.
