My worst to date has to be the Starter motor on a Mk3 Golf VR6. There is just no room to get at it [:x]

I've replaced shocks, wishbones, ball joints, water pump, coolant hoses and rocker cover gasket which were all relatively a breeze compared to that forsaken starter motor [:s]

I have come across some pretty pain in the A** jobs, of which should be simple, but when bolts round off and seize that easy job turns into a nightmare!

I too have done the heater matrix on the mk2 and that was hard but as we buy more modern cars those easy jobs like changing that light bulb become hard, and those hard jobs become nightmares on the mk4's!

But another thing is trying to fix it without breaking anything else, trying to remove clips without breaking them..

Had to be replacing the front shocks on my vento... Allen key hole snapped on both sides so needed drilling out. Then once out needed a shed load more drilling to get the retaining bolt out [:^(]

Took 30mins on the Golf, 1 day for the vento...

Also had a bad day trying to remove an oil filter from a TD escort... driveshaft right in the way,no room for leverage, etc. Entire housing had to come out, oil in face etc...was not a good day [:x]

Where there's room, I use a decent pair of side cutters to snip them off and fit a new one.

As for me, I've done most things on Golfs, but I think the one thing that has stuck in my mind for what it is, is a timing chain on a VR6.
