ok we are getting there now lol

goign froma early 1.3 to a later 1.3 mh with a pierburg 2e carb now question is how do i wire up the carb

there seems to be a preheater for the inlet with a red wire

3 items on the carb all linked and terminated in one spade?

these all just goto ignition live or a relaqy?

the pre-heater gets 12v from a relay, the other bits i think just have a bog std ign live feed?

i think im right in saying the pre heater uses the relay with a signal from a sender in the thermostat housing?

the black one is for the dash gauge, then you have red & grey which are the thermoswitches for choke/inlet. Cant recall which is which but its in the 2e2 faq! I dont really know much about the 2e3 as you probably guessed, my first car was a 1.6 so thankfully I avoided the 1.3 entirely

if its an early fusebox there is a wiring diagram for the 1.6 autochoke and inlet heaters, I think that'll be pretty damn close to what you need for the later 1.3. if it doesnt have the autochoke heater then just ignore that part :)

on mine its under 'Diagram 37 Inlet manifold preheating and automatic choke -
    1.6 models, from August 1987'

cool sounds like no autochoke heater to worry about!
Lookin at the diagrams you want to run all them 3 electrical thingies off pin D/7, which is from fuse 18. For the autochoke thermoswitch 1 wire goes to pin D/2 which is fuse 17, then the other wire goes to D/13, which is the trigger for the relay, you shove that in relay slot 2. Then the autochoke power feed comes from pin N :)

All this assumes its a MK2 Golf?

aha, not quite so easy
If you have a look at my fusebox FAQ it covers the early MK1 fusebox, I think in your case it would be easier to make a standalone loom for the carb. Get yourself a decent bog std switched relay and wire that in to be triggered by the output from the thermoswitch, and run a couple of fused wires from an ignition live source. IIRC the MK1 should have plenty of spare ign live spade pins round the back?

yup thats my plan mate wasnt sure if the relay was a bog standard current switching one or a timer one

boggo switched one, the timed part is handled by that thermostwitch
if you're a VW hoarder like me you must have loads of random 53 relays lying about, they're just the job :)

aw yes have shed full of spares lol

looking at the carb the 3 parts with wires assuming( autochoke,2 other things) are all connected together in series and terminate ina single spade this all looks o.e and not played with but doesnt tally up with the diagrams?

I can only assume they run from an ign live source, the diagram for the 1.6 isnt quite the same as it has a slightly different layout.
Hopefully someone who actually has a 2e3 can comment!

no i dont see why not, if itsd good enough for a 1.9 it gotta be good enough for a 1.3 :)
I have a MK1 Haynes manual in the garage somewhere, I recon that might just have 1.3 diagrams for a later car since it covers the rocco n cabs. I'll have a look for you later :)
