My black MK2 has been sorn since 1st Sep but had to extract it from the garage today and relegate it to the drive:

The red one has taken its place as its having some work done today:

Namely a small patch of welding inside the wheel arch:

Payment for the job is a set of rough MK2 door cards which effectively don't owe me anything, so saving a good few quid on the welding job :-)

Also found out the red one has Bilstein B8s on it. My black one has B4s which are fine but I hear the B8s are much better - any thoughts anyone?

Golf number 3 arrived this week. Another 3 door 8v GTI. Saved from potentially being scrapped as seller was moving house and couldn't take it with him.

Red G reg one has had almost all it's MOT jobs done now, just brakes to bleed.

Started to machine polish it, 4 hours to do the drivers side. It was pretty bad

Bled the brakes last weekend and finished the polishing today. Put all the body fittings back on with a coat of bumper gel. Looks massively better now.

New headliner arrived so waiting for a dry day to fit that and at the same time I'll remove the seats and carpets to wet vac everything as it's all pretty dirty and smelly.

Then MOT it and get it up for sale!

That does look nice and shiny. Let us know your thoughts on the headliner when you've fitted it.
I need one for my golf.

Cheers, tried one from Myrtle this time, one I got for my black MK2 was from headliner world, both sell on ebay.

Headliner world would have been my first choice as to my eye thiers are a better match plus all the holes are cut out - but for some bizarre reason the berk behind headliner world blocked me from buying from him after I sent him a message asking if I could pay extra for some more material on top of what they come with as I need a bit to retrim a panel on one of my other MK2s, quite bizarre really. So I gave my 180 quid to Myrtle instead....

Replaced the sunroof seal recently also. Pictures below of old versus new.

Nearly died when I priced up a new one - 120 quid for 2.5m of felt covered gasket. Remember paying 100 for one a couple of years ago and that was excessive. So managed to find a source who half the price, albeit without the felt coating. Dimensionally exactly the same so fits like a glove.

The pics are pre-polish so please excuse the pink!

Honest feedback for those planning to swap the headliner - do yourself a favour and buy one from headliner world, not myrtle.

I have fitted both and the one from headliner world more or less fell into place. All holes lined up 100%, and all pre cut out.

On the other myrtle one, none of the fabric holes are cut out so you have half an hour fiddling before you can even offer it up to the car.

Furthermore some of the holes in the GRP itself are a bus ride out. Was a right faff to get things lined up and even now it's not great and needs more fettling tomorrow.

Plus the material is less of a match than HW to the original.

I would not buy one from Myrtle again, in summary.

Fettled the headliner a bit more and it's not looking too bad, just got to cut the sunroof aperture out and trim the sunroof panels.

Currently looks like this - outside had full machine polish and all trims dressed, inside apart from the headliner it's had the drivers seat rebuilt and everything has been wet vac'd with plastics deep cleaned. Couple small jobs to do and then it's MOT time!

Fresh mot over the weekend. Tester commented on how nice it was and awarded me a pass with no advisories for my hard work :-)

For sale in the classifieds if anyone fancies it....

My keeper mk2 has been neglected over the last few months, relegated to the drive albeit with a decent cover over it so still nice and dry.

    20230709_133131.jpg

To say sorry for the lack of care I treated it to 6m tax and also a Blaupunkt Bremen which I've been lusting after for a while now. These are around the 400 quid mark so when I saw some sort of deal on ebay which netted one for £320 I couldn't resist. Due to arrive tomorrow so will stick some pics up when it's fitted.

This morning's jobs - on the red one, fitted a new water pipe to oil cooler as it sprang a leak during the MOT :-(
    20240406_111121.jpg
Gave the boot plinth a lick of paint:
    20240406_111057.jpg
And on the black one, I fitted the Bremen. This is a great bit of kit and well recommended.

The G reg red one went to its new owner last week, so the F reg red one is now in the garage being made to look nicer. 1st pass with the polisher and it looks better already.

    Before with pink door:

Bought myself a new daily. Slightly more tech than the MK2s

    20240420_162832.jpg

Quick as well. Just ask the bloke in the MK5 R32 who was tailgating me on the road out of work on Friday. He wasn't happy when I left him for dead
