Homemade camshaft locking plate. If anyone plans to make one, 4mm plate is a perfect fit.

    Old timing chains.

    New timing chain kit fitted.

    New seal fitted.

The chains and tensioners were still great condition, the main guide had some grooves a couple mm deep.

..and a small amount of damage. I've seen a lot worse but im still glad I replaced everything for peace of mind.

I then fitted refitted the covers and top tensioner (but forgot to take a pic).

Next up is the flywheel, clutch and gearbox. Im missing the 6x pressure plate bolts, any idea where I can buy them?

Sorry John, I mean the skinny bolts that hold the clutch pressure plate to the flywheel. Usually you get them with the clutch kit but I didn't this time :(

you dont get any bolts in the 02a clutch kit as the wee pressure plate ones can be reused, and generally you dont need to unbolt the flywheel :)

the wee ones are N 10101001 at 52p+VAT. again cant see any other place but VW for these ones, but they're cheap enough :)

    Awesome, i'll get some ordered.

It scares me that you only need to torque these to 15 ft lbs!

Make sure you dont go over 15, i used my torque wrench on basic setting 15 after putting on a flywheel Hotgolf did for me and I could tell something didnt feel right waiting for the click but got a snap! Had to take it back off and send it back to him to take the snapped bolt out and then buy a new set of flywheel bolts which werent cheap! Reverted back to doing them by feel after that. Hotgolf said sometimes the calibration at the bottom of the scale isnt always accurate.

yeah if you run a medium wrench to do tiny bolts they often dont click, you have to pull real gently till you feel it 'give' much better to have 2 wrenches though one for big and another for wee bolts

Covers back on and sealed up. Once the excess Dirko dries I will trim it off with a knife.

Flywheel torqued up. Clutch and gearbox next.

Just waiting for parts to get the PAS rack fitted so the engine can go in.

I don't have a dolly or an engine crane. Just a tesco pallet and some wooden ramps.

Lifted in gracefully with a trolley jack.

    Thanks for the comments guys.

I couldn't find a VR6 'T Mount' for sale anywhere so I had to cut down my 4 cylinder mount to fit, thanks to CustomJ for the idea.

Cut down and tapped a new bolt hole.

    Fitted.

It's starting to take shape. Ignore all the wiring, thats the old ABF loom that needs to come out.

Downpipe fitted with new gaskets and nuts.

Swapped the 15mm bracket for an 18.5mm with poly bush.

Linkage, driveshafts and PAS rack fitted. Missing a gearbox support arm is anyone has one spare?

I wasn't a fan of the black painted inserts on the manifold so I used some 10 year old paint stripper to remove it.

It came out pretty good after some wet sanding and a bit of polish.

Im going to fit all of the engine plastics and a 'VR6-2.8' engine cover.

Fuel Pipes done, went for black braid this time.

I bought a cable adapter to replace the hydraulic slave cylinder. It's the easier option, it saves modifying the bulkhead and fitting a different pedal box. It's going to make the clutch pedal heavy but this isn't a daily.

Fitted, just need to get a Toledo TDI cable ordered.

Made a start on the engine cover while im waiting for parts to arrive. I've smoothed the factor texture, once its ready its going silver. I may paint the lettering and logo black.

Started reading this last night I'm loving the attention to detail. I can relate to the mentality of not being satisfied until everything down to the last bolt is clean or new. What are you doing with the abf?.. Sale or future project? Another inspiring thread to a newbie like me!

    Cheers Coakers :)

I think I will have to sell the ABF, not advertised it yet.

    Fitted the short pressed rear.

    More work on the loom.

Took 10mm off the rear engine mount. This helped to level out the engine and gave me enough bonnet clearance to fit the engine cover.

    It's getting there slowly.

I need to find/ make brackets for the PAS pipes and bottle. Fit the clutch and throttle cable, fit pipes and rad then finish wiring it up.

The coolant pipe and stat housing that came with the engine were toast.

REplacement parts, new bolts, seals and thermostat.

Tested the thermostat (Had a brand new one that didn't open once!)

Cleaned up and painted the Corrado PAS cooler pipe. fitted with homemade brackets.

Painted the PAS bottle matte black (still wet here).

PAS all done. Made a quick bracket to hold the PAS bottle, eventually I will relocate it once I have the radiator and slam panel in place.

    PAS cooler from above.

The rusty bolts on the shift tower will be replaced at some point.

I've fitted the coolant hoses aswell now so its just the radiator left to fit then wiring.
