well thought i'd do a little update.

big thanks to nealey for sending me some clips for the headlining trim:thumbup:
    before
    [IMG]

    after much better
    [IMG]

then onto the central locking motor.
bought one off ebay and set about putting it in
    out with the old
    [IMG]

and in with the new. sad to admit but i really like doing soldering[:$]

    protect them with heatshrink
    [IMG]

then sorting out the metal rods i broke the little plastic clip that attaches it to the door lock[:x] a new one was ordered and i got on with bending the rod to the correct length to lock and unlock the doors. took a few attempts as it kept popping the plastic clip off the latch.[:^(]

all done now though and i sortied out the membrane
    [IMG]

then just last week i started to get what i thought was a misfire.
well it needed a service so i gave it a full service.

still did it though[:s] so when i got back home i left it running and heard the main fuel pump making a horrible noise. i've had this problem a few years ago and changed both fuel pumps with the lift pump curing it in the end.

so i changed it with a genuine one this time:thumbup:

all details/part no.s added to this guide
    http://www.clubgti.com/forum/showthread.php?p=1940627#post1940627

also after doing the wishbone bushes the other year with non genuine wishbones and finding the polys didn't fit right in the height (they can move up and down), so i'm going back to standard bushes and doing ball joints, drop links and track rod ends

got most of the stuff from ecp (lemforder) which have been highly recommended
still got to get drop links, maybe from vw, which will need making bigger due to the eibach ARB.

    wishbones, BJoints, and rod ends
    [IMG]

    part no.s
    [IMG]

all of it came to 112.95 which i thought was pretty good with the wishbones being about half the price of vw at 20.50 minus the dreaded each

once i get the droplinks i'll be booking a week off work to fit it all, along with the top mounts (genuine g60) that i've had for a while, get the tracking camber reset and then finally get down stealth for a set up

had this week off to do the bits to the car.

last week after moving house in may, i found the golf's mot cert. while looking for the 200sx one for taxing it.
yeah, it kind of ran out in may[:$].

the car failed on handbrake efficiency (was 10%:o:lol:) and both PAS rack boots/gaiters split.

so i'll do all that aswell while i'm at it.

new handbrake cables and some readjusting saw the handbrake working again:thumbup:

now on with the bigger stuff-

i wanted to change back to standard wishbones because the aftermarket rubbish were narrower and didn't allow the polys to fit correctly, as seen here:

they were ripped off and the new lemforder ones put in place.

the track rod end nut was seized, so i cut it off and popped the joint out.

after a good soak in plus gas, a wire brushing, and some heat[}:)] 2 spanners were employed to remove the lock nut up on the track rod end:thumbup:

the old PAS boots were removed. here's both the old ones.

    yeah pretty dead

    removed
    [IMG]

ready for the new ones from euro car parts. they came as a pair with cable ties for around 10
    [IMG]

the droplink bushes were renewed for polys (they are for eibach's, which are thicker than standard at 22mm, and are from C & R for 28:o)

i found i could get them in using a rear brake disc, a wishbone bolt, and the droplinks old ring bush:)

i struggled like mad to get the first one on but it just wouldn't go on the bar.
the one that was still loose slid on lovely[:s]. i removed the poly again from the eyelet and there was alot of rust in there[:$]
therefore for them to go on easy, the eyelets from the old droplinks had to be clean so i attacked them with a wire brush
    [IMG]

they then slid on really easily and new ring bushes were added
    [IMG]

all was then finished off with the new track rod ends and balljoints etc.

also whacked the ferodo ds2500's back in, 'cause they are great if a bit squeely

now for the retest on wednesday, which it better pass as it's booked in at stealth this friday for you know what;) and i need to get the alignment done beforehand

printouts of old rebuilt engine (9A).
it came out at 166bhp and 142lbft

    power
    [IMG]

    torque
    [IMG]

    and details
    [IMG]

    now this engine
    spec:
    ABF 2l bottom end (standard)
dave crissell ported and polished KR cylinder head (head code '373')
    KR cams

bottom lines on the graphs were the last results stealth could find for the car on their computer (not this engine, think it might have been the rebuilt 9A before the rebuild and p&p head).
    power
    [IMG]

    torque
    [IMG]

    summary
    [IMG]

loads better than before at 173.5bhp and 148.7lbft of torque:thumbup: with the only adjustments made by stealth being top end fueling as it was getting a bit lean.

even vince commented how good and clean(smooth) the lines on the graph were and that it was a lot better than the last engine

coupled with the lightened flywheel and the 3.89FD in the gearbox makes it a great little car again. really pulls well from any revs right upto the limiter

now do i leave it or do some more bits[:$]
options would be to leave it and enjoy it or maybe whack some different cams in there
or i could go for megasquirt

Down to 1 car now as 1 of them sold at the weekend.

Only the Nissan though, was a great car but time to move on, 80quid to only 280miles was too much. The question is do I also sell the Mk2? I'd like to keep it but it would free up more cash.

On the look out now for my next car. I'll keep you posted on what it is when I find the right one

found a new car at a very good price with all the right bits on it, so here are a couple of tasters....................

    what a lovely pair
    [IMG]

    mk2 still looking good
    [IMG]

    specs on the ed30 are:
multi function steering wheel and highline computer
    6disc headunit.
    winter pack
    ed 30 extras

    mods:
golf r32/audi s3 brakes (they are amazing and make themk2 brakes feel non existant)
    itg air intake
full miltek exhaust + high flow cat
    high pressure fuel pump
    s3 intercooler
    revo remap.
unknown springs (could be apex as they are yellow)

lets just say it's pretty quick, and it's more economical than the 200sx and the mk2:thumbup:

will be getting the wheels redone to the original colour soon, although i do like the darth vader look it has.

the cambelt needs doing and it need to go to vw to have the common rust spots sorted (front wings)- i will get it done on the warranty even if it nearly kills me

Ed30 is going on the rollers tomorrow night after work down at r-tech:thumbup:

I don't think it's running full power so may have lost the map after having the battery disconnected. R-tech will let me know what's what and give it a full logging session and fault find, then we'll go from there.

I'll post up the results tomorrow, I'm guessing it will be 270bhp like my old 200sx(should be 340-360bhp with the map)

Also it's going to vw on Monday for the warranty paint/rust work to be done.

Ed30 is now at vw for the rust work.

I have been given a new 85bhp 1.4polo courtesy car (only done 200miles). Man it's slow, not helped by going from a 175bhp mk2 or 336bhp mk5, but it is stupidly economical.

Mk2 update: the exhaust has been blowing at the downpipe/manifold joint making the car sound like a banger. A new gasket didn't solve the problem so I tracked down a new downpipe from cms in derby.

The hardest part was removing the jetex adaptor from the old downpipe:(

Old downpipe next to the new one (with adaptor ready for fittin
    [IMG]

Broken part. The weld has broken allowing the flexy spring part to open too much
    [IMG]

The gap I used go get the pipe out. Had to remove/move the manifold, coolant bottle, washer bottle, gear linkages and linkage
    [IMG]

now it sounds like a gti should. Getting ready for curburough
