well went and picked up the new inner cv joint from the local gsf and yes it's the 8v gti one they have given me[xxx] as you may know they are smaller than 16v, g60 ones.

might buy a lotto ticket, my luck has to change.

my brother has helped me find the leak into the boot. i got into the boot while he sprayed water over the back of the car.
the water is leaking through the washer nozzle. it's because the wiper arm has pushed it down (stupid lay flat rear wiper)

i'll buy another nozzle and put the wiper back where vw intended.

don't know why it gets to the side parts of the boot though[:s]

well it's been back on the road for the last week and it feels quicker than ever.[:D]

it's still been giving me some grief though.

    1. the throttle cable was sticking, although now it has been used a bit it has become better. will still change it.

    2. as the weather has been cold i have been getting so much condensation in the car, it was stupid.
i figured i must have a leak somewhere, so the search began.
sure enough a quick feel under the passenger sides carpets and the underlay was soaking.
fed up of scraping the inside of my windows i took it all out to dry and removed the doorcard.

resealed it all and did a guide for everyone too.

after todays deluge the car is still dry:thumbup:

    3. the reason the headlining was peeling was because it was getting wet from the condensation dripping onto it from the roof. the headlining was now beyond repair. so i 'carefully' removed it[}:)]

    the condensation:o (bloody camera phone)

    so i now need
    a gti 3door headling,
a bbs ra alloy, as i'm currently running with an odd steel wheel.

hadn't been cleaned since the trip to the ring in august.

found out today it's still leaking[:x] . more condensation in the car.

did a bit of investigating just now and the door seals aren't keeping the water out.

plus i think that the roof gutter could do with being changed as the bit which butts up to the door has gone crusty (more exposed to the elements??) and doesn't actually seal to the door anymore.[8(]
this results in more water than normal getting in the door area and allows it to get into the clamping part of the seal, and then into the car

so the list now stands at:
    1 bbs ra
    1 3 door seal
1 passenger 3 door roof gutter (plus a few clips to replace any broken ones)
    1 gti black headlining
    the carpet underlay

don't know whether to go to the scrapyard, or to just buy a scrapper and junk what i don't need.

 sweet, if you don't need 'em.

think the main one though is that roof gutter thing. don't suppose you have a spare one of those.[:D]

Do you know what underlay your going to use?

Also about the leak, my van gets so much condensation in the back that it has its owm weather system.

got the main bit completed this weekend.

the bbs ra is now on the car:thumbup:

and got the roof gutter sorted. got one from someone in cov who was breaking a mk2. also had a good chat about golf's, as you do[:D]

after searching through threads about how to remove them i stumbled across posts by rubjonny(who else?) and stumc which revealed the answer.

anyway on to the pics, and a quick Roof Gutter Removal Guide.

first, cover a flatheaded screwdriver in masking tape to protect the paint.

then lift the tailgate to get better access to the rear of the rubber strip. and prise upwards to pop it off it's clip
    [IMG]

now slot the screwdriver into the rubber channel and work your way forwards keeping tension on the rubber (to keep it straight.) by pulling it towards the rear of the car with your other hand.
    getting there
    [IMG]

you might have to lift the channel slightly and carefully to pop it off the the plastic clips.

one of them off the car
    [IMG]

once at the front windscreen you simply pull it straight up in line with the angle of the windscreen.
from here like so. (i stood on the sill to do this)

    all gone
    [IMG]

this is the metal strip you have to try not to bend. if it does get bent then they are apparently awkward to get on perfectly again. the metal part clips onto those plastic clips.

the new one gets laid onto the car.
windscreen bit first (tucked slightly into the wing) and make sure the the door seal bit finishes where it should.

then just smack it home. working to the rear of the car.

told you my old one was bad[xx(] proper crusty. hope to have a dry car now.

next on the list is to still try and track down that '90spec headlining. and then i'm done.............till the next problem anyway.

good to see the current problems are not engine related though!!! ABF FTW.....

what happened to the RS's that were bought? presumably sold to recoup some of the lost from engine probs.....

i will put some pics on here though:thumbup:

i am still searching for a decent headlining.

i've also got a pic of the buckled ra[:^(] which i'll put up soon.

well as the salt is now off the road i decided to get the new wheels onto the car.

fully refurbed. keeping standard widths, as i don't want to cut my car up for some wheel to fit.

centres are dark metallic grey powder coated. mirror polished outers with new bolts and nuts.
brand new centre nuts with chrome badges for show days. the old center nuts with black centres for running around on

with the chrome centres (on old nuts in this pic)

on the car on the with black badges (pictures aren't very good[:$] ) i'll get some better ones soon
