    Thanks

I love the seats, due to coming from a left hooker the now drivers seat is like new!

Not many people like Sebrings for some reason. They are disgustingly heavy but are a nice cheap 15" factory wheel and a bit different from the G60's and reams of RS's (not that there's anything wrong with these). Think I picked those up for 15 a wheel.

Apologies that this isn't a full on thread like a lot of ones on here. It's usually small updates I have due to coursework and lacking of funds. Hoping to get a space in a unit with a few mates and if that happens it'll be in bits in seconds

If anyone has a tornado red GTI tailgate up for grabs please PM me. Updates soon.

Well result of today? MOT FAIL

Not too bad though, only a CV boot to replace and a small exhaust leak from the centre box. Rear fog isn't working either apparently, when it was fine at the weekend

Had a freelance project alongside uni work which has paid for a few new bits including a rust free tailgate, genuine hella rear smoked lights and complete genuine 16v lock set that works from one key (cheers Mike, I've never had a car that has one key  )

Time to crack on with the MOT bits at the weekend and slowly putting together a list of jobs for next holiday.

Well today it passed the MOT  - happy days.

The downside is I got the garage to sort the cv boot too as I just don't have the time right now. Since picking it up my horn now sounds every time I turn right. 'Interesting' when going round roundabouts

Pulled the fuse for now but will have to have a look tomorrow - horn under the wheel arch right? Hoping it's just a dodgy connection of some kind that was knocked when they did the boot.

Started to clean this up too - pretty straight tailgate that should come up well after a polish.

One week left of work before I get a week or so to crack on with the mk2 but managed to do a few hours in today. Please excuse the phone pics, my camera is out on loan. This little pile of parts has built up so thought I'd best get cracking. Replaced the coolant flange on the head a few weeks back along with coolant flush and a general service.

Couldn't be bothered to start anything taxing so decided to start waxoiling with Dinitrol. Using spray cans instead of the gun and seems ok to work with - much better than the hammerite stuff. Have been dreading going deeper into the depths of the mk2 rust spots but luckily nothing nasty. Yet...

Rear seats out and door cards off. Other than 20 odd years worth of dust/dirt and crap seems ok after a good poke around. Looked like someone had already been in there unless mk2's were cavity waxed in the factory? Sunroof seems all good too but did smear a little wax around the channels.

Waxoiled being careful not to block the drain holes up. Not pretty but who cares if it keeps my mk2 alive for a few more years

Under the rear seats is still nice and tidy

Boot floor and spare wheel well is all good (thats wax not scratches)

    Original boot sticker

    Space saver looks unused

Thought I best do something about the outside! Joys of working somewhere out in the sticks [xx(] Before..

And after a quick clean up...

Could do with a polish really but mechanicals need sorting first

Finally finished the damn waxoiling at long last. Stripped most of the interior out, arch linings etc etc. Was rather spaced out from all the fumes from the Dinitrol

Very happy that all arches, sills, fuel filler, sunroof, usual mk2 rust spots etc bar one were completely immaculate and rot free:thumbup:. Was a little worried what I'd find when I went rust hunting. However do have a little bit of rot starting behind the front wings which sucks. Will have to get that sorted some when. Either way, all box sections etc have been filled with cavity wax.

Got a few pictures but still on the damn phone camera.

New Hella aerial after someone was kind enough to take the time to pull it up and snap it off [:x] Why, seriously?

Arches all cleaned up nicely. Seemed a shame to cover them up with underseal/stonechip but this isn't a show car by a long shot.

    One arch in Dinitrol 4941.

Cleaned up my ISV which seems to have solved some fluctuating rev issues. Also started to clean up my interior a little and finish wiring up my VDO gauges.

Went for a quick evening drive - sooo nice when everything works just as it should for the few minutes before all hell breaks loose

Tomorrows agenda holds hopefully getting the gauges working as they should, vacuum hose renewal and might start plugging in the uprated headlight loom.

    Major blow today :(

Headgasket has gone so is coming off of the road indefinitely. Need to have a think about what the plan of action is. Balls :(

Bummer, it was looking great. What about a 2.0 bottom end?

Sucks about the head gasket, although if you're a bit handy with the spanners (as you appear to be) it shouldn't be the end of the world. Worth thinking about a 2.0 swap though, as 1990 suggests. Think ABFs slot into late Digis fairly easiliy, too ;)

Looking good apart from that though, fair play with the Dinitrol - how much did you need, and how much was it? I need to do mine this summer and have heard that Dinitrol's better than waxoyl..

Good luck getting it sorted

Thanks thats a good point, hadn't thought of that. These were the options I was considering

    http://www.clubgti.com/FORUM/showthread.php?t=213198

Thanks, I'm ok with the spanners but I'm not so good with engines if I'm honest - bit reluctant to strip it down but I know thats the fastest way to learn. I've only ever done one engine swap and that wasn't exactly hard as it was an aircooled bug  Other issues are time and work space. What I wouldn't give for a garage!

Recommend the Dinitrol but obviously can't comment on durability yet. It's very easy to use, doesn't clog up and flows better than the hammerite stuff I've used before. Basically did all the box sections with 3125 cavity wax and the underside with 4941 underbody wax. 4x400ml cans of each was enough to do my car and it worked out at about 50 quid. You need a good 2 days to do it though ideally as it takes a little while to fully settle down. It's not the prettiest stuff but if it helps keeps your car rust free I'm all for it

There's a company called Rejel that sell it. Might be worth getting the gun as you get more wax for your money in the cans that go with those but like I said I just used the aerosols.

Just reminded me I've still got to fit that lock set I bought off of you Mike.

After a good couple of months off of the road I finally got round to doing something on the mk2. Have been working like hell to raise some funds towards it, some of it from the overdraft at the moment but should be able to pay it off over the summer.

I've been slowly collecting parts again to sort the headgasket woes out. Decided to rebuild the top end so received a rebuilt cylinder head from 'MarcN' on here (cheers ) along with a massive box of associated parts from VWspares. Work done includes valve guides, stem seals etc etc and a genuine waterpump.

I toyed with the idea of doing the work myself but chickened out in the end and a got a VW specialist in on the case [:$]. While it was in for the head work, I thought I'd make use of the 4 post ramp there so the exhaust was upgraded to a Jetex 3 box system as the old one was past it's best. Undecided on it yet; I'm not sure if it's a tad chav but it sounds ok. Not too loud but noticeably louder over a stock one. The 2 box one must be a canon! Was also disappointed with the Powerflex exhaust mounts as one snapped on the first outing :thumbd:

Spent the whole of yesterday cleaning and polishing the car. Managed to get tornado red back rather than pink  Shame the pics don't really do the colour justice. You can see how pink it was before:

Think that's pretty much where I am up to at the moment. I hope nothing breaks for a few months as I am now officially skint! Loads of odds and ends left to do though including headlight loom, rear discs, fit the tailgate, get the rear wiper working and sourcing a black interior carpet. Would love a set of LS's too but that's going to happen any time soon!

Apologies this isn't a full on thread like a lot on here, it just helps me remember where I've got too if I document it

It looks great. The black wheels, nice exhaust and interior really set it off.

Is it a stainless Jetex system?
