Hey man great read. Love what you have done with the car and brought it back to the States with you hey. That blue stripe on the bumpers works well and the number plate is a great touch! I am moving to the States, Detroit, being relocated by the company I work for and you have got me thinking about my car. Its a 1990 MK2 big bumper Jetta Mighty 8v that I am thinking of putting into storage for the 3 yrs i'm due to be out there. But as work are sending my stuff and the cost of storing is the same as transporting the car (which work would support) I am really considering it. I want to restore the car and I have a garage that I can keep it in and work on whilst I am in the US! Just wondering if there is anything I need to know or should look at for when shipping the car. The car is original and un-modified (at the momnet) its left hand drive and petrol. Do I have inform anybody or anyone I should contact before I send her over? Thank you for any information Simon
Thanks for the comment. As for bringing your car here as far as I know as long as it's original and over 25 years old on the shipping date then you should have no issues but as your only going to be in the states for 3 years there might be some different rules. I would look up importing cars to the US for temporary use.
Hi do you get many looks and signs of appreciation or people coming up to you I'd thought a uk spec car would be very rare over there .
I've had quite a few odd looks as well as people coming up to me asking about the car. Today as I was driving to the shop I had a few guys in a h**da civic behind me taking some pictures which I found odd but it did make me smile...especially when the couldn't keep up
So this weekend I decided to tackle a job I've been dreading for ages, I took out my headliner in hopes of recovering it. Here is what I started with got it out...in a few pieces Then I found this cluster of wires coming from the passenger rear upper corner that I'm going to sort out I also found some shady wiring in my taillight loom Now as most of you know I was moved back to the US last year and right before I left while I had the car washed which resulted in a bottle of Persil being spilled behind the drivers seat. I finally got around to pulling the rear carpet out to clean it up but I ran out of time to actually clean it so I pulled the boot carpet out too for now. I then cleaned up some surface rust and put some seam sealer around this little panel in the passenger side floor pan. I put the seats back in and left it like this for now. I need to make some vapor barriers for my doors as I've only just realized what there for I've got a list of things that need to get done, like new track rod ends and alignment plus 4 new tyres as the fronts are different size than the rear but I don't know if I should go with 195-50-15 or 195-45-15. More to follow
So yesterday I noticed my passenger front tyre inside tread was completely worn so I had to swap a set of 16s on my mk2 that had nearly new tyres. Today I put the vapor barrier back on my drivers door. Then while out delivering pizza some lady backed into my mk2. I have to have a body shop look at it in the next few days to find out cost of repair and hope the insurance will fix it
That's more than a bump, looks like she hit it pretty hard! You've got to question some people's driving abilities sometimes
My 8v got written off for the same damage Though I fitted a new door and got the damage fixed Sure you'll get it fixed no problem
