I noticed that they say the pistons only had two plain rings so I assume no multi piece oil scraper ring. Two stokes run with two or even one plain ring but it's unusual in 4 strokes. Is this a race thing, I've never come across it before?

Obviously reduces friction and I assume oil control is good enough for a race distance or do you think it's just an oversight in the write up?

You could probably get away with it in sprinting, but to give some comparison, the 16v rally works cars still had 3 rings. Maybe this was longevity, road mileage / oil usage, sump capacity.. (dry only in tourers)?

HPR has been in the UK this weekend, cue Audi Sport fest!!

    - a picture he brought with him:

Do we recognise this G part number suffix? I thought the ABF/ACE was D suffixed, and that was it? I have also seen an F-suffix on Ralf Kroll's Berg Cup car at Retro Rides, complete with Audi Sport 'NNE' numbers!

    Here is good

    Richard Lloyd @ 4:11

Great to see the workshops at 4:56. I last went in there (and upstairs) sometime 2009, and the Jags were in there. I was hoping to rescure some paperwork from the Richard Lloyd / VW Golf racing era, but by the time I went back, Apex Motorsport had closed down. Paperwork chasing since has been fruitless. The building is still there, I looked in last weekend as there was a rumour the current Audi BTCC cars were using it, but I'm pretty sure it's empty.

Yes. Because of difference in inlet valve area.
Valve diameter (mm)Number of valvesOverall valve area (mm2)
    2731716.8
    3421814.9
These engines are limited in revolutions, cams and air intake (uses single throttle body of fixed diameter).
I heard story that some time earlier s2000 series engines in rally had no rev limiters and where revving out more than 300 BHP what left Lancer evo cars way behind and FIA decided to introduce some limitations. I can't verify this information. I told the story as I heard once. No profit above what I heard.

First WTCC / BTCC engines were 20V, before switching to 16V FSI

It is Baltic Touring Car Championship attender. In comparison with BTCC (British Touring Car Championship) BaTCC is low budget racing championship.

The interesting thing is the fact that the current outputs are below the Super Tourer outputs.

Cam lift must be one reason, and the single butterfly? What others?

In fairness, the VW kit car ('KC') engines were only over 300 in the case of the Meganes and the Citreon Zxara / Pug 306 to my knowledge, whereas circa 280bhp was the most for the VW EA827 16v back in the day on proper fuel.

I agree not to the level of the best STW engines in the day,
    ( Honda , Volvo )
Think we would be surprised by the numbers RML Chevys make ..
