HPR has just been on a bit of a road trip. He sent some photos of a few places that are somehow more relevant to this thread than anywhere else!

So far on this thread, apart from the Audi, there's downloads on Volvo and Primera Touring Cars.

Feast now for more: more engines acting as inner wishbone mounts! Eight whole pages of the finest Prodrive Ford Mondeo BTCC engineering. You won't be disappointed

Interesting stuff a couple of pages back on the TWR Volvo bodyshell being shorter... I have it on good authority the way back in the days of Group A touring cars the TWR Team running the Rover Vitesse's had Austin Rover making special rear quarter panels to allow the rear wheel tubs to give more clearence for the rear wheels, these were homologated on te grounds that they were a "South African Spec" production body parts and were to allow greater wheel articulation on rough unmade roads... there was ofcourse no difference in the cars sold in the uk to the cars sold in South Africa.... Just Tom at his wiley best god rest his sole.

the holes above the exhaust ports are for cooling water, it flows through the inside between the ports with water and cools it. so that head is definitely for an charged engine, because of the high thermals arising in a charged engine. possibly it is the A59 head[8D]

Of course, silly me [8(]- - and turbo back pressure may explain the relative lack of port and splitter contouring[:s]

Your not wrong, the development of the BTCC cars is really intersting.

I recall when TWR machined the face of the heads on the Volvos at an angle to increase the down draft effect of the inlet ports and still keep within the rules by not changing the angle between the valves, nice [:D]

There was more done than that - entire new cam 'carriers' created. The bottom half of the head was Volvo, the top was TWR!

Chris, the Primera SR2ODE of that era was more than competitive despite "only" 4 cylinders vs. the 5 cyl Volvo, and a relatively virgin head casting - - has any further information surfaced, particularly regarding the combustion chamber and piston crown contours which permitted some 230hp? on very ordinary petrol?:)

Hi LCT, I've nothing more over and above the two articles previously posted, posted below to save yourself / others looking. The Volvo article - I haven't re-read it - but I recall that engine was at a significant disadvantage before they went to work on it. The Primera BTCC had an 88mm bore.
