Streched tyres are a differnt matter, don't stray off topic[:D]

Do you think it is acceptable for them to isntall something that causes those sort of risks?

what, like stretched tyres? the kind of "you might crash and die if I do this" risks?

On a related note, what exactly is so dangerous about it? I can think, off the top of my head, that the air filter tip will become live and might spark if it moves around and touches an earthed bare metal component, but as soon as it moves that far it wont be live any more due to not being in contact.

they have also done a sh1tload more work in total than the average garage.

Thats like saying women drivers are better cos they crash less, and forgetting to mention they drive less.

Maybe they should take on less work, then they could complete the jobs quicker and to a higher standard:lol:

Now I will admit to being mates with 800gs so my response might be biased but what you really need is evidence

the air filter/battery thing isn't good. now did they fit it or did bully fit it afterwards? do you knockers actually have evidence?

Rich took his car on the track with a known water leak, and it had cooling problems, resulting in engine problems. Now i don't know if the water leak is DDs fault or Rich's fault, but it shouldn't have gone on track with the cooling system below 100%

you all sl*gged the 1.6 radiator install, yet QPE run by Ben Leach recommends using a 1.3 radiator for 20vt applications.

now for further attacks please supply full evidence that the car was considered finishedby 800gs when it left the premises.

ok ok. 2 page of reading before posting this. I said the other day my car was running right yes, but there were stilla list of problems I've had to fix myself. Now today I was rewiring my boost gauge as it's illumination has been playing up. obviously no fault of DD's here. But what is is what I found when I removed my fuse box to wire it straight to that!...

This is the wire that goes to my ECU. Probably one of the most important wires in the car. It isn't even a new wire. it joins twice before getting under the bonnet insulated with electrical tape! Just to put things straight this is as my car is now. DD had my first engine back and put this one in. they had 6 weeks to get my car perfect and nurse any damage they caused the first time.

Did I demand my car was returned there and then regardless of it's state? no. I was told it would take 2 weeks and it was getting on 6 weeks. yes I wanted my engine bay done at the same time. DD knew this over 3 months before I dropped the car off. wouldn't it of been a good idea to say to the bodyshop my car was coming in and could they keep a day or two free to get my bay done? If Matt had said "you can have your car back today, but wires aren't routed right, not insulated around the ecu, you're got various leaks all round the engine and just to top it off we've fitted a 150 engine instead of the TT engine you wanted" Do you honestly think I would of taken it back?

Why did I cancel their cheque? The work I paid for had not been completed. Why shouldn't I of taken it back? And after their f**kup picking the car up and leaving me a car to use should of been the least they could do. Why should I travel another 250 miles and then pay to rent a car while mine was away?

Jeff I can understand your point of view. But if you haven't paid for work completed, then DD are within their rights to keep your car until you do pay. it's not that they're storing it for free out the goodness of their hearts?

Here is my picture of a DD install. I have to say it was not a bad install, but not a great one either. I did however supply the engine. ECU and had a special loom made up by (stealth).

Here is a list of problems that I had to sort out:

1: The boost hose touches the alternator and wore away

2: The small bit of wiring that had to be done was like the other pictures we have seen and two days after the install the rev counter stopped working and I had to re-wire it myself. Also non of my MFA functions worked.

3: The downpipe was manufactured too close to the 4 wheel drive train and banged and scraped against it. I was told it was powerflows fault as they had done it. So I went to see them to find out that Matt had done the work there himself and used there equipment for a drink. So they were not going to fix it for free (nor would anybody)

4: Two gearbox to engine bolts were missing.

5: I was told the 4 week delay was due to being busy (fair enough) and also that my power steering pump was knackered, so they had to get me a new one. I was charged 50 quid for this new pump. I later found out after seeing the car on the ramp that the pump had not been changed at all. It still had the blue marks on the bolts so had never been taken off.

Now I dont want to get into a sl*gging match with DD about this but it does seem to be a large number of people have had bad experiences. I met 2 at powerflow and how likely is that!!!! I also met another at my local club meet.

If they were only keeping it until I paid they could very well be within their rights to sell it after all this time, and recoup their losses by now. But they have agreed not to. And I have nowhere to put it off the road for free (or I didnt until today).

Dizzie can you clear something up for me please, did you specifically say you wanted a TT engine? Or did you ask for a 180bhp 20vT? Its in the interests of us all to know, after all. Makes a big difference to the way I interpret what happened in your situation.

Leigh_Collins, did you rush them? Is that why they managed to forget to fasten the gearbox to the engine?

I asked for a TT lump. I also said about the TT lump when I dropped it off saying I would like theTT clocks that came with said engine installed. Obviously these could not be fitted as said engine at the time wasn't from a TT...

Just to clear up the parts supplied being faulty, they were not. The disc had been fitted incorrectly so shook the when I braked. kwikfit sorted that problem out by fitting the disc properly. Now I would of thought a VW conversion specialist would be better than Kwikfit? since the brakes were re-fitted they're awesome.

Of course this is only my word against their's.

they had the chance to say when I asked about the TT clocks to fitted they could of said my engine wasn't from a TT and it was a 150. At that point I would of took my car and asked for my 2500 deposit back and taken it else where.

I supplied a complete G60 brake setup including hubs. DD fitted the lot. on the disc there's a little screw that holds the disc to the hub when the wheel is off. now I can't remember if that screw was broken when I dropped them off or not, but when they fitted the discs the hole the screw goes through wasn't lined up with the leftover of the headless screw so it didn't sit flat. that's why it shook the car. DD told me when I collected the car and pointed the shaking out that I had supplied them with a warped disc.
