Cripes just spotted this thread, a long read!!

Happy DD punter here, not had an engine conv but they've done from little bits for me to pretty reasonable sized jobs on 3 different cars & the work so far has been of the high standard I expect on cars im gunna drive hard.

To be fair & honest they did make a small feck up on somat of mine & it did pi$$ me off as it was a silly simple error.

But I didnt come on the net & moan about it, simply went down there to discuss it. It was all sorted out professionally & more than amicably.

Everyone makes a mistake sometime, the mark of a good company is how they deal with you afterwards. It was handled very well in my opinion & I'm happy for them to work on my motors- ive even got my porker down there at the mo for a couple of bits, I wouldnt do that if I didnt trust 'em.

I hope you sort it out mate, it wasn't really bad things that gareth mentioned just silly things that should have been done.

i personally have never had any probelms with DD, i actually taken my car away from one of the TOP vag specialists for DD to finsh the car and get it to run, none of the work done by DD has ever gone wrong or had to fix, i`ve had 3 different companys work on my car, its the 2 other companys i`ve had complaints about, but actually went to them and got it sorted, all companies i would use again due to the convience and they ALL know there stuff,

    :o :o :o

What a shocking thread.....I cant believe some of the pictures [xx(]

All the previous things I'd read about DD were always positive...remember a spate of forum members singing their praises a few months back..What goes around comes around eh??

Perhaps they are becoming victims of their own success?? If the early conversions were done to a high standard, why the "apparent" poor quality recent installs that have appeared on this thread??

Perhaps taking on less work & concentrating on the job in hand would be good advice [:[]

I speak having had an engine conversion done by Autotechnik of Southampton...to a VERY high standard! They also had a mk2 1.8T in at the time which was "work in progress" & this was also very good!

I think it doesnt help constructively, that the owner of DD & perhaps some of his employees, are friends with forum members who, obviously, dont like some of the things that are being written about the supposed quality of their workmanship.. [8(]

Certainly I agree that anyone who is having an engine conversion done by a company, should sit down & discuss their "exact" requirements & agreed time scales etc etc & what they expect for their money :) , but nobody should part with hard earned cash to be presented a "rats nest" of a wiring loom, loose intercoolers or battery terminals touching on air filters..

What Dizzie does not tell you is the fact that the G60 brakes he got for his car were second hand from Ebay!!!! go figure....

james, my brakes weren't bought from ebay at all! Yes they were 2nd hand, but bought off Bishthefish and were presented with a receipt of purchase showing how young they were. about 3 months I think.

Mate, thats the most awful 'excuse' ive ever read.

The brake discs were fitted over a protruding screw head, which pushed the disc away from the hub so it wasnt sitting perfectly flat with it.

Oh sorry, i just remembered, they were 2nd hand discs so they MUST have been at fault

I'd just like to point out that today Paul Kent, 'ex DD' tidied up and fixed a few problems left under my bonnet for free! He replaced all the vacume hoses with brand new silicone ones aswell as several water and breather hoses. he mounted my air filter up off the boost pipe so it's not just flapping around anymore. He removed the unnecessary parts of the management loom that weren't needed, insulating all the wires he cut so they couldn't cause any undesired effects under the bonnet. he also replaced my ageing windscreen washer pipes with silicone ones complete with new rubber grommet through the hole in the scuttle panel. Something that wouldn't be looked at during any conversion, but nice to have it done all the same.

he also tuned up the 20vT so it's actually performing more like it should. boosting stronger and futher up the rev range. The car now pulls like a train doing 100mph unlike before when it ran out of puff at 110.

Once again, a BIG thank you to Paul for all his work today.

no he was saying it was asmatic at 110 when really it should be winding up like a treat.

so there you go folks, read it and take note. choose carefully of who you use and get in writing, detailed information and agreements of the work carried out before handing over the big ones.

before my car would start to drop off the power at 5500rpm (about 10psi), which in 5th equaled 110mph. At 120mph it was really starting to be 'asmatic' (8psi). It would go on to 140, but you needed a VERY long road and the nerve to sit at 6000+rpm for like 5 minutes to get there.

Now that Paul has had a fiddle with my turbo setup at 5000rpm it's hit 15psi and really pulling hard. So when I get to 110mph in 5th it's still going and pulling towards 140mph very strongly. I didnt want to test that on the M4 yesterday as I'd already seen (and waved at) one white van sat on a bridge.

A few weeks ago this thread was removed following a request of the owner of DesignaDubs. He expressed concern that it contained many 'non factual' comments about his company.

Not wanting completely censor what their own customers have to report about their work on this forum, we've given the thread a bit of a clean-up and tried to remove most of the stuff that was potentially non-factual, heard-in-a-pub type stuff - leaving the posts from people who have actually had experience with DD.

Surely this is a fair solution.
