Ive driven a few corrado's and really like how they handle. ive allways fancied a VR6 and imagined they would be really fast and have amazing accelleration. i had the chance of a spin in one this weekend so i was excited to see if they would live up to the dream.

this was a nice green 2.9 storm model with nice brown leather and a nice set of wheels on it.
have to be honest, it feels pretty nice inside, the seats are great but it didnt seem quite aswell screwed together as a similar age mk3?

i found the accelleration between 80 and 100 mph pretty impressive, but the accelleration from standstill didnt really impress. the noise was nice but overall i was left pretty dissapointed. i definately prefer my mk1 gti.

a vr6 rado was supposed to do 60 in 6.5 seconds which should have felt pretty quick??

If it was a storm would have had traction control as well....

I was proper disappointed by the Golf VR6 I went in, massively underwhelmed by the acceleration.

VR6 is fast, its just very smooth compared to say the hit of "furry" you get from a valver at the right point in the revs. Couple of years since I've had the pleasure of driving a Vr but enjoyed it.

What he didn't tell you, was the vr6 was only running on 4 cylinders

The VRs have long gearing, you can hit 140 in 4th before the rev limiter cuts in, I forget what it will do in 3rd but it feels like its going to go on forever. Dashes can rattle a bit, but having said that its unusual to find one with a full set of screws in it.
Love the Corrados, cant understand how you could use MK3 in the same sentence :thumbd:

All 16v owners will see the VR light, some just take longer than others though

yeah, it's the gearing. just hold onto them and rev the knackers off it.

roundabouts you'd normally take in 3rd, use 2nd.

ring it's neck and i bet you don't think it's slow.

Anyone that says the VR6 doesn't accelerate very quickly has no idea what it was built to do. And that is sit on an Autobahn all day everyday at 85 - 100+mph. As standard, a quick off the mark car they are not, but pullign through the gears from 60+ they are. All VR6's I have ever been in will always sit at 85 in 5th with only the slightest touch of the throttle. They are born cruisers.

But as the others have said, changing the gearing (drop to a 3.9 final drive for example) and it transforms the engine/car into a completely different animal.

Or you could swap the shell for a mk2 one.

Even then, you just have a cruising engine in a lighter car. It helps yes, but not as much as a gearbox upgrade.

I raced one once in my stock S1 RST (132bhp) and he only reeled me in once we hit 3rd gear. So as mentioned above, i'd have to see they're real stormers in the higher gears.

I'd just have one for the noise tbh.

Would actually be quite happy with it not being as fast as a 16v.
