No, but beleving in materialistic things is weak in my opinon and thats what i was getting at with sutherland.
Constantly having to bragg about money stuff is weak it means there is no essence to life apart from wordly possestions.

You would be welcomed in, and probably treated to a fine meal.
Charl has recently become Christian, But the last time I stayed with her she was not. Her dad knew I was an Irish drunk, completely beyond "saving". He is a minister/preacher, whatever you want to call someone who started up their own church. They had me over, they even let me in the front door! A filthy drunken heathen junkie!
And then they served a fantastic roast dinner, with a really nice Welsh beer for me (err hangover cure, it was a bit necessary!), and we sat and talked for the afternoon while Charl's kids annoyed my head. The only thing mentioned about religion was the discussion on whether Irish priests as shown in Father Ted say "Feck" rather than "F*ck". No discussion about church, no attempt to "turn" me, just a really nice family. Which I think is pretty good going for a minister.

That's the smell of a proper house, missus. And if I remember correctly, that smell could only have come from your house where we stayed, to your parent's house? Therefore, the stench was yours and yours alone. And your pathetic bath which takes 2 hours to run....

I've only just noticed this myself....

Why the hell(sic) do I have to believe in god to "have anything to Believe in".

Religious people can care more about material things more than there fellow man just as much as non religous people.

I believe in my family and friends. I put other people before myself and treat everyone I meet with a polite and respectful manner. Not because I will be judged by a mythical Character on my death bed, but because thats the way those around me are kept happy. And by people around me being happy, that reflects on me and makes me happy.

I am a firm believer of the Human race and that we are Animals as much as Elephants, tigers or crabs. The way we act on this world is driven from deep natural instincts that over time try to serve to improve the human race as a whole. Even the wars we have, which kill thousands if not millions, sporn idea's and technology that helps us all in our eveyday lives and drive the technology of the future. By the beginning of WW2 we were barely able to fly in aircraft, by the end we had jet power planes that have hardly changed in 60 years. Space travel wouldn't have been possible without the German V2 rocket, as well as the harnessing of nuclear power for power stations.

I am also a believer in this planet, the sun and the solar system and that this will have much more effect on how we all live or die than any god or belief will ever do. The panet and the sun were here billions of years before the Human race, and it will help to kill us all and still be here long after we've gone. The human existance in the time line of this planet will almost be equal to zero.

We have gotten to where we are at this present time, not by the grace of god, but by the constant adaption and evolution of what has become the Human Race.

Yeah he ain't bad at all .

Bit of a pun I know, but he really is a wasted tallent IMHO. But then has his life and the path its taken been the reason for his Harmonica skillzzz?

I've spoken to him a few times, and he seems like a genuinely nice bloke too. When he's not out of his face on drink and/or drugs.

If you do a quick read-back you`ll notice it was Gaz that wrote that and not Miss P. ;)

I have no doubt she has a lot of knowledge of religion, but the (healthy) debate was to the merits or not of religion, and, some of her points were the typical response to anti-religious arguments.

There was no intent on my part to `win`, just put up my views and where I thought her thinking was wrong. Note I didn`t resort to saying she `knew nothing` or that she was talking `rubbish` as she did in her responses to me. Also the fact she didn`t respond to my last part of our debate, made me think she had no comeback (or I p*ssed her off! )

The "technical" bit of her response (as in, without spelling mistakes!) was written by her dad, the fella who owns, runs, whatever you do with an independent church, the same guy who welcomed me with open arms into his house and didn't even mention god. Despite me being ideal to "turn", being a bit of a knacker.

And where can that be wrong..... half the world is on Prozac, Seroxat or whatever. I prefer wine, but still. If it makes Charl happier, and she's not banging on your door preaching, then where is the harm?

As I may or may not have mentioned earlier in this thread; though I may not be a fan of religion, I have no problem with those that do as long as they don`t try to push it on me. So I have no problem with Miss. P (or her Dad) for being religious. I just felt that some of her `facts` were wrong/misguided, and, felt I had to point those out. Also her reponse to sutherland...

...was IMO a bit out of order. [8(]

The last quote was directed to SutherlandM, no-one else.
As for the rest? PM it with her. I've just opened another bottle of wine by the "classical" method, which I bet no-one can tell me what I'm referring to. No corkscrew, no wood screws, just a teatowel...

I think the post about us being the same as any other creatures & mentioning the solar system is spot on, there is nothing special about us to anything else except that we can think for ourselves, why this makes us omnipotent is beyond me.

We came from the stars & the earth & that's where we will end up, it's sad but it's a fact & when it's all over the only thing left will be gravity so let's just make the most of it.

The only reason i did'nt respond anymore was because there was no point....I know what i believe and everyone else has a right to their own opinion , in not here to argue so im gonna just leave it unless someone really wants to debate and learn??

That`s fair enough. You have your opinions/beliefs (which I would never deny your right to), and I have mine, so we can agree to disagree.
