Unfortunately I'm not as gifted as yourself, I think it might be easier to just buy one Brian.

Why has no one worked out you don't need a spacer [:s]
Extra seal and master sitting out another 3mm = fail

How do mount it without the 3mm spacer?

    Dead easy my friend
Like mk2 escorts which had an adjustable center ball in the the servo
With golfs its just a press fit spud you need to look close to see it.
Use a pair if pliers pull it out and put it in a drill and spin and remove 3mm of it holding a file against it
    And refit/push back in
Bit mad no one on here picked up on this as you need the 3mm with 20v units
And looks factory instead of a daft make do spacer.

trouble is if you do that the servo is then no good for mk2 type mc in the future?

the other way which was worked out a while ago is to drill down the mc actuator 3mm or so, that way no spacer or servo mods required

true, but are you going to be modfying the seat mc to take a mk2 reservoir anyway? if so, not much effort to drill it out as well :)

    Remove master cylinder from servo
The push rod is in the servo you see it between the two studs
The top of the rod is removable, pull it off with a pair of pliers
it is a small spud with a tail which is what pushes in to the rod
Also a few shims. Drop the tail into an electric drill and is I said few touches with a file 3mm gone.
Remove the stud from the drill and push back onto rod ...job done

It is an alternative way yes, but you are unlikely to return to a MK2 setup, so it would be best path would be to mod the permanent MK2 part i.e. the servo and fit a part you can buy of the shelf from the Ibiza.

I believe this is what fasteddie is suggesting.

yeah, my thinking was that if you are grinding the top off anyway for a mk2 master cylinder you could also drill it down for a mk2 servo at the same time. cant see how thats daft
