mk1 gear linkage parts/prob.

    Golf lad - there is a hole in the heat shield for you to get a socket through, but i found mine was a bit out of shape so i just got my maul grips on it and bent it completely out of the way.

    altern8 - once you've dealt with the heat shield its just one nut.

    has anyone replaced the part number 45 thats the part i was thinking off

    my cabby is finding it hard to select any gears its really sloppy still but all i have changed is the bushes so far [:$]

    yep thats the bit m8,did you buy it from gsf then?
    didnt think they would do it...

    have you fitted it yet?
    id use a bit of locktight on the bottom nut,even though its a lock nut it tends to work loose.

    fitted that its made a difference there is s till a bit of play in the stick

    how hard is it to replace that white ball thing under the gear stick ?

    and how do you align the gears now [:$]

    i got every gear now apart from 1st and 2nd aint where they are ment to be so its still a bit hard to change gear and the car is running flat [:s]

    which bit do i need to adjust to move the gears over a bit?

    to get 1st and 2nd i have to push down slightly and then select the gears like im going for reverse

    mmmm,may be other worn relay levers or just the adjustment on the splined rod.

    ive done it twice in the past diffarent ways.
    1/put the box in neutral,have the gear lever held too the right in neutral and tighten the clamp.
    2/have the box in reverse,have the gear lever in reverse and tighten the clamp.

    nope,i did replace the plastic ball at the bottom of the lever though. ;)
    got it in the comprehensive kit from gsf...
