I have two WUR's, and have swapped them a couple of times but there has been no change.

I did do the WUR mod (3.6 down to 3.4bar) and didn't notice the change.

Could it be related to the Ignition Coil at all?

Different car but I had the same symptoms as you, went on for months and I could not sort it. Started off with bad cold start, then hot start, then started missing under load. In the end it broke down 10 miles from home. AA turned up, did a few tests: check for spark etc (which was present), then tried a new coil just in case - Started on the button! Worth giving the coil a go, as I found out.....

Thanks for your input. The problem is definitely getting worse, so something is deteriorating I reckon. However, my cold starts were better than my hot starts initially.

What does anyone else think about the Ignition Coil?

I think that it is worth a go, as well as another TCI-H unit if not swapped already!

I've checked the static timing and I'm confident its right. Not checked its firing at 6 degrees adv, but it can't be much out if it is - no flat spots or anything.

It's the fact that its just getting worse over time, if I compare it to ages ago.

still...ign timing is the most basic of diagnostic checks to perform

its worth a look before replacing expensive parts

When mine went, the car would start misfiring at about 5k RPM.

Update: have replaced the ignition coil and it seems to have fixed the problem at last! It's firing up just fine, hot and cold, without any throttle required.

As this thread is pretty long, I should summarise what I've done...

The engine was very difficult to fire up - it would turn over fine (after I had replaced some of the wiring) but just wouldn't fire when it was hot. The problem got worse and generally would occur regardless of it were hot or cold.

I bought a fuel pressure gauge and it was clear the system wasn't holding pressure - fixed this with an accumulator and check valve. I also fitted new injectors.

The problem still occured, but it was clear that when it did fire up, it wasn't firing on all 4 cylinders so I begun to think about the electrical side of things. Shoved in a different ignition coil and it's now fixed!

Things to also check: timing, cold start valve/injector operating as normal, leaky injectors, air leaks

I might be fitting an ignition coil too. I have been reading this thread day by day and I think I am in the same issue :(

was any adjusting required after fitting the ignition coil? where did you get it from? scrap yard, ebay, brand new, etc?

    thanks!!!

No, its plug and play. Bought it from another forum member.

I had a quick look through your thread the other day (which I suggest we swap back to) - have you checked the fuel pressure using a gauge?

yes and no. I mean, it was done 2 years ago by a local garage, who's owner had been working in bosch injections official service in Barcelona when corrado/golf/etc were being produced.
