    It is mate, yes.

Aphex: I was looking around for ages trying to decide which wheels to go for (don`t we all!) and the Schmidts just jumped out. Absolutely love them, but I`m not so keen on the 3-piece version.

Mine are in dire need of a re-furb now though. [:^(] I don`t think I`ll be getting rid of them, but I have been pricing up Compomotive MOs...!

Cheers Mate... I think you have answered my next question. It was...

Found a set of wheels that I like, 7 X 13 offset of ET6 & 195/45's...Will I have a problem with the wheels sticking out too much, rubbing the arches?

I compared it to StuMC's wheels of 8 X 15 offset ET20 and it said 1mm.........So what u think StuMC, can I get away with it?

The inner clearance is 27mm, will it put more stress on the car?

One last thing.....fitting 13's, will make the car lower as well...hope it ain't too low!

I take it no one likes the starmag alloys...looks good on the polo but might be too small for a mk2 golf with big bumpers

I agree they look cool on that, but 13s on a big bumper Mk2 would be too small.

Ok, I might start a new thread but with stumc answering most of my questions hopefully I won't have 2.

    16 X 7.5 35mm Offset up front
16 X 9 (don't know 4 sure but think it will be) 15mm Offset for rears

I think some of you will have a set-up like this on your mk2 so I would like to know if I did fit these wheels would I still be able to drive the car in true GTi fashion?

Or will I be restricted, i.e. wheels rubbing so won't be going round corners fast etc.

I do want to fit these wheels but don't want to take the fun away from driving...this is why I have a golf in the first place.

Sorry to all of you who keep on reading this probably saying just pick a set you ****, but it ain't easy.

I have also noticed that (StuMc) you don't have wheel arches, so when calculating the offset thanks to BG16v will be a bit different.

I took the arch trims off, because that`s the look I wanted. They don`t really have any significance on what wheels you can/can`t have. Too wide or wrong offset wheels would still rub. For instance, I still had to grind around 5mm off the inside of the rear lips, because of a bit of rubbing over bumps.

The 7.5x16" up front, should be OK, but 9" on the rear will almost definately need some arch work. Of course it`s still all dependant on how much of a drop you`re going for.

The rim of the wheel is right in line with the arch, so I guess a standard size tyre would be 1-2mm outside the arch line. Probably not that noticable, but an MOT tester or eagle-eyed cop, might have something to say about it. I get round it by using 195/45 tyres. They are slightly stretched on 8" wheels, but stay well within the arch.

ok...I am going for Borbet BS, 8X15 ET20 with 195/45's as that spec has been done without problems...hopefully if I don't change my mind AGAIN

Only other option is Steffan Evo Design 16 7.5 up front 9 at back with 195/40's

It will depend on the bolt seating faces of the new wheels, either, radiused as in Pic A, or, tapered as in Pic B. Unlikely to be flat like Pic C.

The thread size is M12x1.5 with a 17mm hex head. Length will again be dependant on the wheels, so all in all you`re better waiting till the wheels arrive, sort out what bolts you need (you`re standard ones may not be suitable), then order the locking bolts.
