yeah same here, just left as std it happily wound the roof open & shut, clicking off as it was supposed to
I wired it up to a MK2 window switch to test the motor works, dead easy.

go back a couple of pages and you'l see my cover

if youre handy you can use the orig mk2 piece as a frame and build up the center with fibre glass, i chose to glue to trims together then filler it and cover with headliner

    Help wiring???!!!

Got the motor & switch in pics, the switch works the same as an electric window switch so found a car at the breakers and borrowed part of the rear window loom from the switch to the motor, my problem is i'm useless with wiring[:$] the windows only have two wires to open and close but I've got 5 connections on the audi motor! (4 on the main plug and a 5th that branches off) If anyone can help I'd like to know which wire does what & how or even if its possible to use the switch I have?? Thanks

Ok I'm 99.9% sure its the same as a leccy window switch:
    1 & 2 - open/close feed to motor
    3 & 5 - open/close power feed from relay
    4 - earth
6 - feed for switch light

    On the motor:
blu/red - live feed to motor/switch (basically, run your live feed to here, then feed that into pin 3 & 5 on the switch)
    red/yel & blk/red - open close feed to motor (run these to pin 1 & 2)
blue wire - cut off live from one of the switches (technically you should run this to one of the the live feeds to the switch 3 or 5, but I found it worked perfect with this wire disconnected, the relay still cuts in as it should)

Edit: I think the blue wire is used for the tilt function, so should be on the 'close' input to the switch, since I don't have a tilt roof I can't test this :)

:) Thanks for that, I don't have tilt either, thats why I didn't want to just wire it in, didn't want the motor to trash my roof!

if you wire it as above the relay will cut the motor when it reaches the open & shut position

yeh you hold the button the whole time...it just cuts out when its open/shut instead of roaring into the roof and ruining things

Think the switch is from a polo open air model.
vwscottie got me the part no. 6N0 959 727A

I bought it new cost 19GBP, a bit steep but couldn't track one day at a breakers anywhere and with the motor only costing a fiver, its cheaper than the kits that pop up on ebay!!

I can't see why you'd need to buy and ebay kit, I reckon you could probably do it with a couple of off-the shelf relays and a few bits of wire.

Not really thought about it much, but now that the topic has been raised, I might have a go at converting mine.. :)

If I get anywhere, I'll let y'all know..
