Head is now back on and awaiting new inlet cam, disk bells should be turning up end of Jan and have just finished making the intercooler top mounts.

Not a massive amount of progress but better than nothing I guess.

No, just using my right foot at the moment  Still yet to decide on a boost controller just disconected the N75 (cuts the boost to 0.5 bar) which got me passed the noise police at snetterton. I will probably go for the Apexi when I get round to sorting it out though, seems like the best option. It was also recomended by a few other members who have a bit more knowledge on the subject than myself.

Been working on a few small bits the past few weeks when time has allowed...

Found that the front panel was cutting in to intercooler bushes so I made up two sleeves to sit between the panel and the bush...

    Started with some of this....

    IMG_0333.JPG

Cut it into two of these...

    IMG_0337.JPG

    Shaped into these...

    IMG_0332.JPG

Then fitted them into the front panel...

    IMG_0339.JPG

Not sure if I like them yet but I have another idea for them that I might try when I get a chance.

The other thing was that after changing the head from big port to small port I needed to do something with the manifold which is still big port. Rather than shell out s on a new one I had an idea....

Started off with an old 20vt passat inlet manifold that I had laying about....

    IMG_0342.JPG

I then cut off the flange...

    IMG_0343.JPG

Removed most of the remaining rough cut with a pillar drill and milling bit...

    IMG_0344.JPG

    Finished off with a file...

    IMG_0345.JPG

Marked out material to be removed...

    IMG_0347.JPG

Removed material to leave a taper...

    IMG_0348.JPG
    IMG_0351.JPG
    IMG_0352.JPG

And there you have it, a big port to small port manifold adapter.

    IMG_0350.JPG

I'm hoping that this will help smooth out the air flow from the big port manifold into the small port head. Before, the air would have been slowed by the abrupt change in size but now it should be accelerated due to the taper which means I should see a little more torque.

    Thats all for now.

Carried out a brief road test today, spool up is much better and the car feels a lot more driveable. Couldn't really push to hard due to the greasy conditions and the general lack of tarmac in places but I'm well pleased with the results so far. Just need to sort out some bolts for my spacer then it's off for a remap.

If I had access to a bansaw and a mill I would. Takes way too long by hand.

On another note, my brakes have finaly arrived back from AP which will be getting fitted this weekend along with a new middle box (so I'm below the drive-by noise limit), some V-band conectors, the bolts for the manifold spacer, some heat wrap for the down pipe and some silicone hose to plumb the O/E oil cooler back into the system to aid cooling a little bit more. I have also stripped down some old coilovers for the locking collars which, after years of abuse, are past saving on mine.

    Roll on the weekend!

Bit of a hectic weekend so not much progress made but I did get a chance to finish and fit the oil cooler box and refit the OE oil cooler.

Yet to test it on the road but it drops the oil temp from 94 down to 80 inside of 60 seconds when the fan is switched on.
Hope to be able to get to grips with the front brakes / suspension this week if time allows.

Few more jobs done so far this week...

Booked the car in for a re-map on the 18th March.

Also booked a slot for a trackday at Bedford Autodrome on the 28th March.

Got around to fitting the 5 stud hubs and swapping the outter CV joints to the bigger mk3 GTI / VR ones.

Un-seized my coilovers and changed out the front springs.

Fitted the new bigger better brakes...

After trying the new 17 x 8s I found that was going to have to extend the arch a little bit but not a major problem...

    DSC_0383.JPG

Simply cut it down the middle and moved the rear section back as far I could get it, then made up a filler piece for the time being. When I have more time I will fill it in properly.

And finally I got the new exhaust silencer ready to go on after fitting it with V-bands. Had to turn about 3mm out of the two that will fit to the silencer but it will work out a treat!

Amazing build on the go here.

Did you use the 5 stud wishbones from a mk3 Golf GTI too?

What size are those discs? 330's?

Nice idea with the inlet. Not a lot of droop on that suspension...

    Correct, 330x28's

    Cheers bud.

I know, I think the lack of droop is causing me problems in low speed corners tbh. As the suspension runs out of travel it lifts the inside wheel and causes the Quaife to stop working so I loose drive out of the corners. Is only a cheap FK setup at the mo and will get changed out for something a bit better in due course.

 I'll keep an eye out for you mate!

Been making slow but steady progress on a few bits the last few days...

Got the exhaust nearly sorted out now, just waiting for some new hangers to turn to finish it.

    As it was...

Not very pretty but I'm hoping this will be enough to keep the noise police off my back for now.

Also had my boost controller arrive today! [:D]

Should help smooth things out nicely.

What a great project ! Just read it all.

I was going to ask why you failed the noise test, then saw the pic showing you only had one silencer

Do you know what happened to the driveshaft ? I`m assuming its just the huge amount of torque you are putting through it. If so, how have you fixes them, are they uprated ones of some sort ?
