I must talk with my welder/painter if this repair patch (with attached old jacking point) won't be a problem (I assume it shouldn't be). I talked with him earlier and said that I will buy this panel.

Is the hole that I marked as 1 is also part of this panel ?

Mine have been welded up now. Currently just painting the arches to put the trims back on. I will grab some pics off my other camera and put them up. He left me know when he got through the job so I could take pictures along the way.

mine has similar issues. Whats the best way to clean off the underseal? Drill wire attachment? or heat and scraper

If it is proper under seal as in the black soft paint on stuff then heat and a scraper.

But if it is the hard VW stuff the a grinder and a twisted cupped brush on will make short work of it.

Grinder & wire brush FTW. Goggles and gloves are essential with those!!!!

While I would agree with you totally, if you use these twisted wire brush ones [IMG]
I find that these are a lot less likely to send wires flying all over the place. They do last a good bit longer too.

I'm not even sure they are jacking points are they? I would have thought they were more jig points on the production line cradle ? That's why the jack use the sill jacking point???? When they are like tea bags I suppose it doesn't matter. But that sign is usually the start of the rest of rot to come!!

I've got a bit of info on jacking points which might help people as the panels are no longer available.

Scrap what i wrote below, I've looked at the body cut in the day light and realised its a mk2 part, False alarm
I believe corrado shells are fitted with two different panels for this location, one panel is the same as the mk2, the other style the same as mk2 G60/rallye shells so if you can find a solid one will be a good source for a repair section.

I repaired this area on my G60 syncro shell a few years ago. When I did this I used a body cut from a corrado (year and model unknown). The golf G60 shells and rallye shells are slightly different in this area, but share the same panel as corrado's. Picture's below.

I knew this area was also a bit ropey on my other mk2 GTI, so when a friend was breaking a corrado I got another body cut to repair this mk2. From repairing the G60 I knew the panel would be different but maybe it could still be used.
Well it turns out this corrado had the same panel as a normal mk2, this corrado was an early G60. I will get a picture of the other corrado panel this evening.

Interesting to learn that Corrados had a mixture of these panels Gareth.

Yeah I was surprised too, I assumed they all had the larger panel. I thought it might help people find replacements.
I'm not sure if it's age, model, or both related. I'll try and get the other picture tonight.

I had a look before but only found the syncro style panel listed for the corrado, so if they ever got the mk2 panel its long sdince been dropped out of ETKA. it could just be one of those things that is missed, like how mk3 golf sometimes have mk2 beam bushes but no mention of this fact anywhere!

That's interesting on the beam bushes, Could it be early cars or parts left over.

False alarm on my findings/comments above, sorry.
I've checked the body cut in the day light and its actually from a mk2.
I've had it a while and in my memory i thought it had come from a early corrado. I was looking at it the other night in the dark, and got excited.

Please feel free to delete my posts Trev.
