It must have been detonating for a while, but the failed wastegate pipe just finished it off.

Far more than it should have, andI think the answer will have to end there!

Elton at Jabbasport has apparently built an IHI 365bhp 1.8t Mk2 for roughly 3.5k including the cost ofthe MK2 GTI 8V.

The DP was collected from QPENG on Friday, looks the business, and was definitely worth the wait. For anyone looking into a 1.8t conversion:ifthe quality of the QPENG 1.8t P&Pkit is on a par with this pipe and the veryhonestdealings I've had with Ben Leach (QPENG), then they come thoroughly recommended.[IMG]

Yep - hindsight is a wonderful science!

    Anyhow....

Car is now MOT'd, on the road, and being used reliably (so-far) as everyday transport. It's as happy pootling, as it is humiliating considerably more expensive "performance" cars (an E46 330i sport was made to look silly last night...).[:D]

    Next step 4wd.... maybe?[:$]

Cheers - the chap that owns the car is very chuffed with the final (for now) product.

Is it mapped - well yes, and no. The haltech was sold, a MBE ecu purchased from QPENG with a generic map, and that's it. The engine runs very well, and the MBE unit appears massively better. Admittedly it has proper map on it, but the ECU is also more advanced, making it a far better solution.

There are still a number of issues to address with the car to make it as clean as would be liked, but it's not bad for a well used 17 year old hot hatch.
