Cheers for that. It's a shame I have to report that the engine has recently blown up. The wastegate actuator pipe blew apart, turbo boosted uncontrolled, fuelling went very lean, and as consequenceof the bad fuelling and high pressure (I'm assuming), the contents of cylinder #4 appear to be very, very screwed! OOPS![:^(][:x]

One second it was fine, then the next throttle application resulted in a burst of power, then a rather impressive lack of power! D'oh!

[:^(][8(]Sorry to hear 'bout that, think you'll miss the 1.8t and want to get it fixed, and dropped in a lot quicker than next summer!

Can you not just get a cheapo short engine from somewhere as you have all the ancillaries.

Then ebay the extra stuff you don't need?

...and that was the preferred option this morning when a man without a carlooked out of his window, saw rain sheeting down and wasn't amused by the prospect of cycling to work.....

the idea will change again before the day is out! [:$]

Until the engine is stripped, it's not possible to tell exactly what's shafted, but suffice to say, when the engine isrunning, the dip-stick tube doubles as a (permanent) wastegate! [:D]Did someone say "rings, blow by".... ? Gotta laugh........ in fact for amusement it's probably worth getting a video of it, before the engine goes under the knife!

I'm just the helpful friend that cracks the whip from time to time, and mucks in wherever possible!

we couldn't get the head off: getting a tool on a Sundayto undo these bolts is not easy! They appear to be 9mm Ride caps, but only 8 and 10mm are easily come by.

a head shot, just for the hell of it! [:D]

I'd put an AFR meter in the car for when the new plant goes in, then u will be able to keep an eye on wots going on with the fuel. There not that exspensive, cheaper than a new bottom end.

all that needs to be done to it is fitting the new cambelt. I'm hoping to have her back on the road again just after xmas.
