Ahh yeah, forgot the car will require a CAT. Damn, thats put a downer on things! I'll have to sell the ABF lump as a conversion then, sell/break the VR6 Passat shell, its got Spax and 17" rims, so i can make a bit back. Its one less job to do i suppose, getting the Passat working with the ABF. Edit:- Unless i can find a Mk3 motronic injection system/ecu for free/cheap to put on the ABF and into the passat. Edited by: Deako
Cars get tested on their mot's by which is older, engine or chassis - so it'd get tested as a non catted car. So there would be no problem. Edit : Though yours is an utter hotch potch of parts, ABF and MK2 injection - it'd be hard to determine what would be correct Edited by: Andy947
Oooh, cool. Sounds back on track then providing the K-Jet system will mate up on the Passat, and i cant see there being a problem there really. The passat is still MOTd anyways, new owner can blag the MOT center!!
Really, tell me more?? I would need ECU, airbox, and the other gubbins. But if its going to cost me much then i wont bother as im doing this as cheaply as possible!
is it really worth the hassle of putting the engine into the passat? surely you'd get just as much selling your 16v engine box/loom as a conversion rather than putting it back in the passat. i mean passats dont exactly fetch good money especiallly a converted one.
is it worth all the hastle at all, just to gain an extra 20BHP or so, alright so the VR6 sounds alot nicer but is it really worth it
Quite simply, yes. To be honest, i doubt ill gain bhp from my ABF, but torque is much better and Vr6 Mk2s are so much nicer to drive. Jettaman just wants me to give him details of the Passat VR really! So are Passat VR rad and fans going to be suitable?
Great. Does the Passat use twin fans? Also, does anyone know where to get a cat replacement pipe from with lambda probe attachment?
All vr6's run twin fans i think (and isn't the Passat rad the same as the Corrado...?). On a 94/95 M it is pretty much bound to be OBD1 too. I thought all the VR were 5x100 fitment too......... Edited by: cliveyp
nope, not necessarily. Only early ones used distributors. My Corrado (1994) was coilpack but OBD1 (although it did use the OBD2 diagnostic socket). They changed to OBD2 in 1996, hence why the Highline MK3's and anything after them tend to have more power than the earlier ones. Still not sure about the PCD at the moment though........
My Passat was also 5x100 and OBD1 coilpack eninge. Twin fan setup too. Deako> thought you can use cat bypass pipe and just drill thread for lambda?
Have you used the rad and fans on yours Dalj? Any problems with them? Did you just go for the easy Mk3 VR6 clock setup? Just got a quote on the insurance. My premium is going up a whopping 13 per year with the VR6 in!! Collect the car on Saturday morning, let the conversion begin!!
Yup, I'm gonna use the Passat fans - haven't got anywhere near fitting it up yet... May try and use the Passat cluster with a little bit of dremeling here and there after seeing the 2.0 8v conversion Phatty did, OR Vince reckons I can use the 16v clocks with a resistor in-line to work with the 6cyl signal and retain a 'factory look'.....
Hmm, insteresting, the standard golf mk2 clocks? Anywhere near that stage? May have to ring vince myself, as id love to be able to keep the original clocks for the car.
MK3 Clocks don't quite fit the MK2 dash hole unfortunately. They'll go in, but IMO it doesn't look that tidy.
