I agree with all those who say it'll be a pain in the a*se swapping the ABF back into the Passat.. and it will be worth next to bugger all if it's not got the original engine.

I'll probably get flamed for this, but I'd be tempted to stick with the ABF in the golf - I'd imagine it's cheaper / easier to service, lighter, better on fuel and a more advanced / nicer engine (4 valves per cylinder etc) than the VR lump.

I can see where you're coming from with the torque and drivability, and I'd imagine the VR would be quicker in a straight line than the ABF - but I'd still keep the 16v ;)

Just been speaking to Paul, he says the Passat Rad is too large. Some people have run passat cross members though. But he hasnt seen passat fans used.

He reckons i should use the passat clocks, although i dont like the way they look in mikeys car with the 2.0 8v.

So ive yet to decide on rad & fans & clocks.

How far out do the Passat Fans sit from behind the radiator cos their isnt much room?

Mine had a large single electric fan directly bolted on to the radiator, I've now fitted a twin speed fan and cowling from a old Seat Toledo but its a tight fit! Used this cos it was slim.

Unsure till i get the Passat. However, it cant be much worse than the Corrado VR6 Rad & Fans i had on the last mk2 vr6. That was tight.

Adrian Flux. Can only assume its because they based it on being a Passat VR6 engine, and not one out of a Golf or Corrado, which naturally have higher insurance.

Looks like i cant use the Passat Rad according to Paul. Thats another 100 ive gotta spend on a Rad then! [xx(]

    Really? Thats odd.

Does anyone know if i will require the 8v driveshafts, or as my cars already set up to use an 02A box, will my existing driveshafts fit the VR6 gearbox? And i mean length not the cv joint diameter, as i know thats already 100mm.

Does the rad actually not physically fit or is it the fans for it are too deep etc? Just that one of the options I'm looking at rather than Corrado setup is to use the Passat rad but with slimline fans that sit in front and blow rather than behind and suck! Ooeerr!! [:$] (like the peach mk2 VR in PVW ages back)

Andy, I didn't know about this until Vince mentioned it either - I think they've dont it on a conversion and it worked spot on aswell. I'll get more detailed info off him when I get to that stage....

I didn't use the resister trick in the end, I found you get a much better signal by tapping onto pin7 of the TCIE ignition amplifier unit

Can anyone confirm the difference in length of the ABF and CVR6 rads, and is the ABF rad slim?

EuroCarParts have all the dimensions in a book. just like a 16v rad but fills the whole width of the front, but for the hoses to line up properly, a rado vr6 rad is going to be a better bet
