Cant see the point in wanting to lighten it up,why??

If you take out all the interior/sound deadening you wont hear yourself think let alone speak!

Edit:tcjay when you have a trackcar stripped & without soundproofing your right it probablly will be very loud but your padded helmet takes away some of the noise & having the engine & road noise screaming into your ears is part of the fun ( you can hear the bits fall of easier).

its about power to weight. In short, my stripped out Mk2 16v was
about as fast as my mates corrado VR6. The longer way of looking at
    it is....
car 1 has 150bhp and weighs 1000 kilos, it has 150bhp per ton.
car 2 has 150bhp but weighs 750 kilos, it has 200bhp per ton.
so car 1 will need to find another 50bhp to compete with car 2 in
straight acceleration, not to mention the fact that it also wont change
direction or stop as fast as the lighter car. Tuning an engine is muh
more expensive and trickier (or not allowed in certain classes of
racing) then putting up with no dashboard or carpets, and more
power doesnt let you corner faster (thats down to testicular fortitude
    normally)

mine is stripped out except for the dash and heater, has no bumpers and plexiglass, it weighs in at around 750kgs ish i thing, as mk1's were approx 840kgs as standard, but i think that was dry weight.

Infinity has also got no dash, no heater, fibreglass wings, bonnet and tailgate, racing fuel cell, racing battery, no spare wheel well, straight thro exhaust, various holes cut in the body work! and some trick lightweight wheels. He is also mad and deaf as it's still his daily driver!!!!

My mistake,i thought the guy wanted to strip out his daily driver not a track car which makes perfect sense to strip it out ie power to weight ratio etc etc

I too wanted to get the car as light as possible.
I removed the dash (surprisingly heavy) but decided to replace it with big stainless tube, so no real gain there!

Removed the heater too. Not so good if it is a daily driver though as you need to have the windows open in the rain [:^(]

Also removed the carpet and door panels but decided it looked too rough, so made up some lightweight vinyl items and some nice red carpets.

Stripped out the rear but decided the car would look better with a roll cage, which is quite heavy too!!!

Never actually weighed the car though, so I have no idea how successful I was!!!

Mad 20v - That looks great mate!

I wanted to cut the inner part of the doors out like that but wanted to keep the winding windows too (The car is used quite a bit sometimes...)

How do you get it through an MOT? It doesn't look like you have any warning lights or switches for anything!!!

Yeah but the stack instrument panel is for engine functions. Surley it doesn't control things like headlights and fog lights. and what about visual warnings for things like high beam, fog lights, indicators, hazard etc.

There is no way a car should pass an mot without this little lot, which is why I spent the time doing this...

Track cars don't necessarily need an MOT - depends on the race I suppose, but Mad 20v said that he does sometimes use it on the road!
