as the title says? i've got a peeko back box and a KnN pannel filter in the air box atm. a few people have mentioned drilling the air box as it would sound even nicer (would it)(could this cause any probs?).

its for my 8v gti, so should i? :)

    thanx

It can make a difference to the sound but its not massive. My valver has a drilled box and it hasnt caused me any problems at all.

If you do it make sure you only drill it on the wing side otherwise you suck in the hot/warm engine air when you are sitting at idle.

There is a round plate underneath the airbox. I pushed that out and took out the snorkel tube at the front of the airbox. Also driled holes in the vicinity of the now missing plate. If you are really bored you could even drill out the plastic from the grill as it is solid between the slats at the side.
This will give you at least 0.1bhp and sounds ok under load but not as in your face as an induction kit. I only did all this as I was bored one day looking for something to do.

Personaly i wouldent do it, but many have done, i you do want to do it i would get a nice big pipe and run it from your gril to an air tight hole in your air box, this would give you maximum cold air but minimum heat from teh engine bay, dont know what it would sound like though.

The whole point to drilling is to free up air flow to the filter.
Note more air is good [:D] , but hot air is bad [:x] .
So ideally u want to be getting as much cold air into the air box.
So do as axlfoley said and run a pipe to the air box.
Remove the plastic funnel from inside the airbox, and (not a winter thing this) seal up the hot air pipe inlet in to the air box, u need to disconect the vacum pipe to the air box and seal the end so u don't damage the vacum flap inside the box.
Just watch out for poor starting on v v cold mornings!

[8D] That is very cool - how much was it and where did you get it from? I assume that it's the same on the 16V raddo?

I drilled the wing side of mine (left) and underneath, then I removed the baffle behind the headlight and made a plastic bracket that was the size of the baffle hole. This had a hole in the middle of it which I inserted cut pieces of vacuum cleaner tubing going from behind the left headlamp and to the bottom of the bumper to draw cold air. Whether this actually does anything I dont know LoL but sounds good on quick acceleration. Oh and mines a Digifant...for the best sound you need a Valver!!!

Oh and sorry if the pic below is of poor quality I took it a minute ago and its dark outside! :-)
