I think MK2 smalls look best on dark coloured cars, especially with the chrome trim. On most lighter colours they just don't look as good to me, not sure why! But bigs seem to suit all colours! :)

Not deliberate, just the first big bumpered pics I found!

I like 'em both, but I have natural 'old skool and chrome' tendancies so I kind of lean towards small bumpers...

Thanks to those of you who have complimented it, the car's always been on small bumpers as it's a F-plate. Should hopefully get it finished this year for another trip to the European shows.

Hmm... Think they both look good.

What would be best really is a big front bumper, and a small back (apart from the fact that it would look pooe).

I think the reason smalls look good on the back, is because you can see more of the tire and it makes them look a bit wider and aggressive

For the front, I really like the 16v spoiler on the small, but also the fogs on the bigs look good, and the 90 side sills were definately a good look when they brought them in.

I did the big front bumper and small rear one, with no arches one side and missmatched pre '90 GTI and GL ones on the other. It did look agressive but the dents and 'kill' on the bonnet helped with that!

Ok, i agree with the whole light cars with big bumpers and dark cars with little bumpers. Tho i whole heartedly think that mk1 and mk2 golf's look better left alone and not suped up.

How did the p-slot wheels on the last page get to lookin so good? cos mine just look boring cos they's sprayed [xx(]

small bumpers all the way but I wouldn't retrofit small 'uns for
    the sake of it !!

mk2's were not designed for 'big bumpers' and were just a lame
attempt to keep the golf looking up to date with crappy escorts
and othe shiiite cars, they are alot more expensive to replace or
repair what with the painting etc, don't look any better and are
heavier too. a bumper is for bumping and if it gets damaged
you can sling another on for 30 quid not 100 +

    no.

    old cars, small bumpers.
    late cars, big bumpers.

leave it like that and stop ruining late GTI's....

So if this Golf was origianlly fitted with big bumpers and converted to smalls (lets say) you would automatically dismiss it as 'ruined'?

I think a dub project should be looked at as a whole, rather than just generalised as 'converted to big/small so its ruined' 'not original wheels so its ruined' etc.

If its been done properly there is no reason why a small/large bumper conversion 'ruins' a Golf, any more than fitting a different set of alloys.

Anyway, my point was that I think small bumpers generally look better on dark coloured MK2s, not that every dark coloured MK2 ever made should, by default, have come out of the factory with small bumpers ;)

I'm a fan of both small and large bumpers, but I look at the whole thing before decide weather I like it or not, all the details large and small (colour, alloys, trim, interior etc) need to work together to make a truely great Dub.

yes, it looks sh1te. And it's an E reg anyway so I can't see why you used that car as an example?

I'm not saying cars should be left standard, I just can't see why people put inferior old sh1t on their cars and think it looks good? I find it quite laughable actually that people are prepared to spend good money (which could be spent elsewhere ont he car) on making it look like a 200 1985 1.3C

Don't even get me started on Ronal Turdo's.....(come on mods, we NEED that roll eyes smiley).

You'll all be putting big bumpers back on them in a couple of years anyway you fashion muppets.

Ok fair enough. I only used that as an example because I thought it looked nice, but oh well. I've never seen a 1.3C with crome bumper trim tho ;)

I agree with you on the 'fashion muppets' comment tho, bolting stuff on your car simply because its in fashion is pretty sad.

If I fit anything to my car it will be because I like it not because all the local townies say it looks cool! (which automatically means it isn't anyway)
