Like the arches and wheels, and the engine/chassis setup. But the colour and the rest of the styling is poop. I can undstand the idea behind that one more than all the chrome laden sh1te that's about though.

Right well I see you're definitely a big bumper fan with no compromises :)
Personally I prefer the big look but smalls have been growing on me since I bought my 1.6, which is good cos I wont be able to afford a 90spec trim upgrade for a fair while. By then I might be able to afford the insurance on a nice J reg GTI anyway!

Have to agree with whoever said earlier that VW put the big bumpers on to facelift the mk2 and make it fit in with the escorts etc of the day. So that was VW following a fashion trend for big bumpers anyway!

sequels are often inferior to the original. Before anyone starts waffling on about mk1s here, bear in mind that the mk2 is a totally new car rather than a rehash of the same thing - i.e. 90 spec mk2 vs pre 90. :p

Mk2 GTI's look sh1t on small bumpers, period, that is my opinion, which I'm entitled to express as much as I like. Whether you agree or disagree is your prerogative. I don't care really. So if you see someone pointing and laughing at your car at a show then it'll probably be me.

I do like smalls on Jettas though. Mainly because a big jetts rear bumper is HUGE and looks utteryy ridiculous, and the 'small' jetta rear is about 1" deeper than a standard small. shame they didn't put a US spec one up front to match....

Firstly, that green E-reg Golf in the link looks great!

    Secondly:

Since when is newer automatically better? How many cars have been totally ruined halfway through their lifespan by crappy 'facelifts'? I think the big bumpers were quite a successful facelift, but what's wrong with sticking lighter, smaller, more subtle bumpers on a newer Golf? Not every 'improvement' VW made with each Golf model was necessarily better.

Maybe they will, maybe they won't but it's up to them innit! :p

Yup I agree, if we all thought the same then we would have a very boring 'members motors' section ;)

You're right, there are always 'innovators' and 'followers'. Not everyone has the imagination to be the former, and it's a lot easier to be the latter. One of the reasons my car is practically stock is cos as soon as I change it in any way it'll automatically be classed as a certain 'look', and I don't want to do that!

Wait 'till you see my T25 Van!

Oooh can't wait for the new sig, I'm sure I'll love it!

theres only a few pioneers in the scene.not many people can say that they havent drawn inspiration for their car from another car on the scene.

with the age of the mk2 now people are running out of ideas for what can be done to them.

rallye fronts/rado front/single headlamps/badged/de badged/big or small bumpers smoothed or not/arches yay, nay or flared/non standard colours etc etc etc etc

all been done before many times before.

styling a car is all a personal statement.you cant please all the people all of the time.

no, it's not going to be brown, it's not getting RS rims, and it's certainly not getting an RS style front bumper either.

Capable of doing 200mph on the other hand.......now you're talking.

I'm not doing much to it styling wise, don't need to really. I don't trust bodyshops anyway.

at the end of the day people choose that style because they like it.

i cant imagine some one would shiplap clad their golf just because they saw one at a european show.if they would then that is sad.modifying your car and hating it just because a certain crowd has done their car in that style is very sad indeed.

    edit cos i cant spell

WOW, when did this thread get so big!!!!

If its small leave it small, if its big leave it big.

If you want small get a pre 90, if you want big get a post 90.

    Simple as!

big bumper golfs do look nice, but i think we can all agree that, big bumpers with early door and arch trim, is the work of Satan that is right up there with big bumpers on MK1's

also big bumpers with no arches !! or the wrong spats, note exibit 1 check out the crap fitting!
