Looking to get some new 15s for my mk2 valver, I have the wider g60 arches and its lowered by at least 60mm all round.

Dont know how too describe it but when the tyre looks pulled out to the rim? what width rim can I fit on a mk 2 like this withought it rubbing on the arches and what tyre size, rim size combo will give this look?

    thanks
    JJ

Yep thats what I was thinkin of

Those wheels really only 15s? look bigger?

Not sure what Et15 means? sorry for being dumb. I was thinking of some ronal turbos, these come in 8x15??..guess I'll have to investigate.

Will I have to look at any special offset or spacers to stop it from rubbin lock to lock, or for that matter on the outer arches, I have the G60 plastic arch trims but Ive not had the arches rolled and dont want to.

sorry for all the questions but the alloy wheel specialist are lying f**kers to get your money.]

    thanks,
    JJ

ET15 is the offset. Standrad VW is ET35, so the wheels sit 20mm further out than standard.

Not sure if ronals come in 8" wide

You'll have all sorts of arch clearance probs though with that setup with a 60mm drop.

Will need the arch's rolled all round :)

You really need a low offset wheel with the G60 arch's or the standard wheels tend to look a little lost in there.

I kinda hope the rollerskate look is a passing fad (like DTM tailpipes...). Using a tyre like this transfers the tyre forces away from their design direction; I worry about creating stress areas where the tyre isn't designed to cope with them.

Also the tyres are designed such that the lateral (cornering)forces are reacted by the interaction between the tread capand the sidewall; cornering grip (force) is generated by the movement of the rubber in the tread, and determined by the control of this movement via stiffness of the sidewall, hardness of the rubber compound and the tread pattern design. Stretched tyres are surely being used way outside their design parameters in this regard, hence I'm concerned that a catastrophic failure could occur when cornering at speed. Let's put it this way - dedicated track cars have vertical sidewalls.

Wider rims at the rear is a daft idea on a FWD platform imho; why change the handling balance of a car which already handles so well and predictably? More grip at the rear = higher threshold of breakaway, hence temptation to push harder until finally it suddenly unsticks and you pirouhette into a ditch, or whatever's coming the other way. Surely better to maintain the front/rear grip/handling balance on the UK's badly-maintained road network... to give yourself the best chance of getting it back if it does overcome the available grip. When Isaac Newton's driving, there's no arguing with him. Not to mention (until now) that wider rear rims lookgash imho.

OK, rant over. My opinion is that 7x15s with 195/50R15s look bang-on, especially deep-dish BBS splitties. Best to retain the factory offset (ET28-35) to avoid putting extra strain on wheelbearings and hubs (again to keep the forces generated by cornering and braking directed along the paths that were designed toreact them). The 195 profile retains the adjustability and handling balance; wider profiles will mask this a bit. Mine's on standard 6x14s with 185/60 P6000 tyres - I care more about enjoying my driving than kerbside bling.

    what he said.

Although Andy's look like a very mild stretch compared to some.

There is no problem of stretched tyres as long as you are aware of what you are doing.

I'm well aware the tyres are just outwith their listed maximum width, but i seriously do not expect a catastrophic failure - i'd be quite confident to predict there was a degree of over engineering in there ;)

Not really 'stretched' though as they are within the fitment range, they are just 'fitted' ;)

195 on a 9.5 is dangerous. IMO if you cant do the arch clearancing to fit a decent size tyre (215 minimum in this case) dont fit the wheels :thumbd:

Thought it might be that car.

    Shite ride height.

Could safey run a proper sized tyre without any risk of tyre to arch fouling with that 4x4 clearance
